At Laurea, adherence to good scientific practice is ensured, and therefore guidelines have been drawn up for cases of misconduct: Research integrity and procedures for handling allegations of misconduct.
One form of misconduct is plagiarism, which is described separately below.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism, i.e. the unauthorized copying of text, is presenting as one’s own a thesis, learning assignment, exam, article, report or any other text or part of a text published by another person or persons. Plagiarism is an infringement of copyright. Examples of different plagiarism situations are described in the guideline on preventing dishonest conduct and handling cases of misconduct.
Use of Turnitin in detecting plagiarism
Turnitin is used to detect plagiarism. Works can be submitted to Turnitin as a Canvas assignment submission.
Confirmed plagiarism leads to correction of the work or to a complete retake of the assessment. Plagiarism can also result in a written warning.
Turnitin is used in the following:
- all theses
- larger learning assignments
- all texts where there is reason to suspect plagiarism
- texts proposed to Laurea’s publication series
You can find instructions for using Turnitin here.(requires signing in).
