Why is information security important to you?

Daily information processing involves various information security threats. One serious threat is malware that spreads through networks and email. They can, for example, steal or destroy your files, transmit your username and password information to the malware author, or slow down network operations. Security software cannot protect against all malware, as new ones appear constantly. Other serious threats include identity theft and the pursuit of financial gain using the user’s information.

By using common sense and following the instructions you can protect your information, the workstations you use and networks from information security threats. In addition to your own data, protect any personal data of others in your possession. Examples of data that should be protected from outsiders include contact information, bank details, health information and email messages.

A user ID should be treated in accordance with the terms of use and, for example, the user ID–password combination must not be disclosed to anyone, not even to support.

Everyone has a duty to take care of information security by complying with the legislation and Laurea’s information security rules. Failure to comply may lead to consequences.
