As a Laurea student you are at the centre of our activities. We promise that you can study flexibly, receive guidance and feedback, build your future together with working life and members of the Laurea community, and receive high-quality services that support your studies.

As a student you have the opportunity to help us implement the service promise, for example by giving feedback. By answering feedback surveys you can influence, for example, the development of the quality of teaching, competence, and learning environments. Surveys are answered anonymously, so we encourage honest and constructive feedback. The results of the surveys are communicated regularly, for example in the Semester Info newsletter.

In addition to the feedback surveys presented on this page, you can at any time give feedback on any matter related to studying at Laurea using this form.

Ground rules for giving and receiving feedback

As a working life oriented university, Laurea wants to strengthen students’ workplace skills in giving and receiving feedback. At the same time, the aim is to develop the feedback culture of the entire Laurea community. For this purpose, the ground rules for giving and receiving feedback have been created together with actors from the Laurea community. The ground rules shown in feedback surveys targeted at students, for example, remind respondents of the importance of positive and constructive feedback.

Give feedback
  • Choose the right moment and place: Give feedback in an appropriate situation/mood to avoid creating an offensive situation.
  • Be honest and respectful: Give your feedback openly and honestly, but respectfully. Avoid offensive language or personal attacks.
  • Be polite and clear: Use polite language and tone of voice. Be clear and understandable so that the recipient of your feedback can benefit from it.
  • Focus on concrete matters: Give feedback on observable and measurable facts. Provide examples or observations that support your feedback.
  • Be constructive: Give feedback that helps the other person to develop or to improve the situation. Offer possible solutions to problems.
  • Thank and encourage with positive feedback: In addition to constructive feedback, remember to give positive feedback and encouragement for good performances and development.
  • Listen and allow room for change: Truly listen and focus on what the recipient of the feedback is trying to convey, and consider what should be changed or developed based on the feedback.
  • Be ready to justify your feedback: Be prepared to discuss the feedback you give and be a genuine listener when you receive feedback yourself.
Receive feedback
  • Be open and receptive: Listen to feedback with an open mind and see it as an opportunity to develop.
  • Separate the issue from the person: Understand that feedback concerns your actions or work, not you as a person.
  • Ask and clarify: If the feedback is unclear, ask for more information and clarification.
  • Avoid being defensive: Try to understand the background and purpose of the feedback instead of defending yourself.
  • Thank the person who has given feedback: Appreciate the effort of the person giving feedback and thank them.
  • Take responsibility for your development: Use feedback to your advantage and make necessary changes.
  • Give feedback on the feedback: Describe what possible changes/development measures you plan to make based on the feedback, or justify why the feedback will not lead to development measures.

Study unit feedback

When a study unit or project ends, it is time to give study unit feedback. The purpose of study unit feedback is to improve the quality of your learning and your study experience. Based on the feedback you provide, teachers can develop the study unit and teaching tools. Your feedback is also used as part of the development and quality assurance of curricula, education and the entire operation of Laurea.

Study unit feedback is collected using the Watermark Course Evaluations & Surveys feedback system integrated with Canvas. Basic information of participants in the implementations (name, Laurea email address and Laurea username) is imported into the feedback system to enable sending the survey link and logging in to the survey form.

The feedback you provide cannot be linked to you. Teachers responsible for implementations see the responses and response rates for their own implementations, but not who has responded to the survey. If there are at least two respondents, the feedback system administrators at Laurea will see the list of respondents, but not which respondent provided which feedback.

You can see open study unit feedback surveys on your Canvas dashboard or via the Study Unit Feedback link in the Canvas workspace. You will also see popup reminders in Canvas. Three days before the feedback survey ends the popup reminder can no longer be dismissed, and the feedback must be given.

For the feedback form to open correctly in Canvas, you must allow third-party cookies in your browser. Both Canvas and the feedback system are separate services that require login, and cookies allow logging into Canvas to suffice for authentication to the feedback system as well. If cookies are not allowed, opening the form may fail or require additional logins. More information about cookies can be found in Canvas’s Guides for students.

When a feedback survey begins you will also receive an email from the feedback system containing a link to the open surveys. You can also see all surveys open to you by logging in directly to the feedback system with your Laurea credentials.

Other feedback surveys

Bachelor’s degree students answer the student wellbeing survey in their second year of study. The survey themes cover personal resources and study skills, teaching and guidance, the study environment and Laurea’s student wellbeing services.

Service promise survey

The service promise survey is carried out annually in the spring for all students. The survey themes relate to the implementation of the service promise at Laurea. International mobility feedback survey

You will be asked to provide feedback on international mobility if you participate in a student exchange or complete a traineeship abroad. The survey covers the support measures related to the different phases of your exchange.

Graduating students’ survey

You answer the graduating students’ survey at the final stage of your studies as part of the graduation process. The survey themes relate to teaching and learning, internationality, connections to working life, practical training, the thesis, student satisfaction, competence at the time of graduation, as well as employment and student entrepreneurship.

The same survey is used by all Finnish universities of applied sciences. The results of the survey can be viewed on Vipunen.

Career monitoring

You will be invited to answer the career monitoring survey five years after your graduation. The survey collects information about graduates’ employment, career opportunities produced by the education, and graduates’ satisfaction with the degree completed.

The same survey is used by all Finnish universities of applied sciences. The results of the survey can be viewed on Vipunen. Laurea also prepares field-specific summary reports from the results, which you can find in JobTeaser’s Employment information by field section.

Quality Talks

The purpose of the Quality Talks practice is to enhance the utilisation of the survey for new students, the student wellbeing survey, the service promise survey, graduating students’ feedback, career monitoring, and study unit feedback. Laurea’s Quality and Information Production Services produce summaries of all student feedback annually, based on which those responsible for the development of bachelor’s degree programmes define degree-specific development targets and the development measures, responsibilities and schedules for them. The aim is to highlight the impact of student feedback and to promote the dissemination of good practices in education.
