Before studies
Registration, payment and cancellation terms
Registration for studies takes place in the Laurea Smart online store. Read the registration instructions, payment and cancellation terms.
Study guidance for Open UAS customers
In the Open UAS guidance you will receive more information about Laurea Open UAS study options. We will also map your starting point and goals for studying. Guidance is provided online via Teams.
Starting your studies
After registration you will receive an instruction message about starting your studies to the email address you provided. The message provides information about i.a. how to activate your Laurea user account and how to log in to the learning platform.
User account activation
It may take a few hours for your student account to be registered in Laurea’s systems after confirming registration for the course or purchase.
Setting up Laurea email
Students at Laurea’s Open UAS are assigned a Laurea Outlook email account. Communication during your studies mainly takes place via the student email or the learning platform. You can also set up automatic forwarding to the email address of your choice from your Laurea Outlook email account.
Log in to the learning platform
Laurea uses three different digital learning platforms: Canvas, DigiCampus and Viope. Check the course information to see which learning platform is used. Familiarize yourself with the login instructions:
Computer
Studying at Laurea requires a computer and an internet connection. Note that you will need a computer with a webcam and headphones with a microphone.
During studies
Microsoft 365 applications
Laurea students get access to Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook email and Teams, during their studies. When your study entitlement ends, access to the Office 365 tools ends as well.
Pakki – the student’s dashboard
Pakki is the student’s electronic desktop for viewing your studies. From Pakki you can view the courses you are registered for and the grades you have received. You can also order a study certificate and a transcript of records from Pakki.
Download certificates during your studies
You can download a transcript of records and a study certificate from Pakki when your study entitlement is active. The documents are electronically signed.
If your study entitlement has already ended, read the instructions in the After studies section under Certificates.
Attendance and absence during studies
You must be present for the first time of an Open UAS course or notify the responsible trainer of your absence to confirm your participation in the course.
Attendance at course can mean physical presence, for example. during the course on campus or online. From the point of view of learning, participation in lectures and workshops that require attendance is important. Learning requires active listening and participation in discussion. In lectures and workshops, the topic of course is deepened and the participant receives more up-to-date information or information that may not be found in literature. It is especially important to attend the first lesson, because then the objectives, methods of completion and evaluation criteria of the course are reviewed.
As a rule, scheduled lectures or workshops entered in the course information require attendance.
If there is an alternative opportunity to participate in the course, the teacher will tell you about it or on the course page.
If you are prevented for justified reasons from participating in the first contact session or from becoming active in studies in accordance with the conditions set by the teacher, you must contact the responsible teacher to agree on participation in the implementation. Your enrolment will be rejected if you do not report your absence from the start of the course or if the reason for the absence cannot be considered justified.
If you are unable to attend lectures/workshops, always inform the teacher in charge of the course. You can get the teacher’s contact information from the course product pages, the course learning environment or customer service.
Study rules
Laurea’s artificial intelligence policy describes how artificial intelligence can be used to support teaching and learning in a useful and reliable way.
At Laurea, it is forbidden to use fraudulent procedures to obtain credits or other benefits. Laurea has prepared separate fraud guidelines for the prevention and investigation of fraudulent situations.
All activities are guided by Laurea’s ethical code of conduct and Laurea’s accessibility, equality and equality plan. All members of the higher education community are responsible for promoting accessibility, equality and non-discrimination in studying and teaching.
Laurea library
The Laurea library is open to public. You can borrow literature needed for your studies and receive guidance on information search.
Services that do not apply to continuous learning students
Open University of Applied Sciences studies, continuing education and specialisation education are not education leading to a degree, so they do not entitle to study support or other study social benefits such as student housing, Kela meal allowances or travel discounts.
Students participating in courses are not entitled to the services of a school psychologist and a special education teacher. If it is possible to buy meals at a reduced price on Laurea’s campuses during the courses, this has been announced separately in connection with each course.

After studies
Grades and retakes of courses in Open UAS
Evaluations of completed courses or education in Open UAS are recorded in the study register. If the performance is graded as failed, you can retake the course.
The completion of Open UAS courses or projects is evaluated no later than four weeks after completion. Free online courses are evaluated within two weeks of completion. The attainments are recorded in the study register. If your Laurea credentials are valid, grades will appear in Pakki (Student’s Desktop) under Performance.
Certificates
Individual Open UAS studies
Open UAS students must download their electronic transcript of records themselves from Pakki while their study entitlement is valid. If your Laurea user account is no longer valid, you can order a transcript of records, study certificate or other certificate by emailing avoinamk(at)laurea.fi. A fee in accordance with the study services price list will be charged for the certificate.
Training modules
A student who has completed a training module will receive an electronic certificate or an electronic transcript of records after the training. The certificate is issued in the language in which the student completed the training. The person responsible for the training will give more detailed instructions about the delivery of the certificate.
A fee in accordance with the study services price list will be charged for reissuing a certificate or transcript that has already been issued once, or for transcripts, certificates or certificate duplicates sent separately.
Study attainments in My Studyinfo
The completed records of Open UAS, specialization trainings and credit-rated training modules can be found in the My Studyinfo service. In the service you can share a link to your study records, for example, with an employer.
Duration of study right and returning to studies
The right to study for a fixed term is always granted according to the duration of the studies.
For Open UAS studies, you will be granted the right to study for a maximum of one year at a time. Your right to study at the Open University of Applied Sciences will continue automatically according to the duration of your new course registrations. In other trainings, your right is determined by the duration of the studies.
If you do not complete your studies within the time limit, contact our customer service (avoinamk(at)laurea.fi) and the person responsible for the training to agree on a possible extension of the study entitlement.
