Criteria for admission to Bachelor´s degree studies

We recommend that you enrol for the implementation of your own group. Places for mandatory core competence studies are primarily reserved for the students of the group for which the implementation is planned. If you enrol for the implementation of another group, Laurea cannot guarantee that you will fit onto the implementation or that it will fit with the schedule of your other studies. If your enrolment is rejected, follow the possibilities for post-enrolment.

Admission to AMK core competence studies

  1. First, students from those groups that are attached to the implementation basic information are accepted, including any pathway students of those groups.
  2. If places remain, next accepted are students from the same campus and the same programme for whom the study is mandatory or an alternative.
  3. If places remain, students from other campuses in the same programme for whom the study is mandatory or an alternative are accepted.
  4. If places remain, students from other programmes for whom the study is mandatory or an alternative are accepted.
  5. Finally, if places are still available, other master´s degree students are accepted provided that the implementation admits students who have chosen the given core competence study as an elective complementary competence study.

A student’s enrolment may be rejected if the student has enrolled in an implementation of another programme that is not suitable as a substitute study for the student’s degree.
When processing enrolments, note that a master´s degree student cannot include AMK studies in their degree.

Admission to AMK complementary competence studies

Complementary competence studies are, as a rule, open studies regardless of field and starting group (taking prerequisites into account). A specific target group is used in planning the course offering only for a particularly well-justified reason. In that case it is indicated in the implementation’s group selections or in the implementation plan under “additional information for the student”.

Students are admitted to the implementation in the following order:

  1. If the implementation is targeted to a special target group, students belonging to that special target group are accepted first.
  2. Next accepted are those students for whom the study contributes the field studies required in the degree requirements. Degree requirements expect complementary competence studies of students in the following programmes: social sector, criminal sanctions sector, information processing, legal competence and safety and risk management.
  3. If places remain, other students are accepted last.

When processing enrolments, note that a master´s degree student cannot include AMK studies in their degree.

Notes on admission to AMK studies

According to section 21 of the Degree Regulations, “the scope of a degree may be exceeded only in exceptional cases on the basis of an approved personal study plan (PSP) and provided that graduation is not delayed. A student’s enrolment in courses may be rejected if all studies required for the degree have already been completed.” Exceptions where exceeding the scope of a degree may be agreed are defined here. (Requires Laurea credentials to log in.)

The above order may be deviated from case-by-case by a decision of the responsible teacher of the course implementation. A deviation is possible in the following cases provided that the responsible teacher has received advance information from the student for processing the enrolment:

  • illness or other compelling reason, such as that the only obstacle to graduation is the given study and the right to study is ending, or
  • the student’s study plan would fall short (under 30 credits/term) due to accepted prior learning and demonstrations of competence (accelerating studies)

A student may also be placed on the implementation by decision of the head of studies if the progress of studies requires it. After the start of the study module, students may be added only by prior agreement together with the teacher.

A student admitted to the implementation must confirm their participation in the implementation in accordance with section 19 of the Degree Regulations (see instructions below).

Special selection criteria may be used for course implementations in exceptional situations, for example in a course funded by a project or in a course that requires commitment to a study trip. The selection criteria are then stated in the implementation plan.

Students from other higher education institutions participating in cross-institutional studies are accepted to Laurea’s course implementations in order of enrolment by the responsible teacher of the implementation. In studies organised in cooperation between higher education institutions, it is possible to agree on using another method to select students for the implementation, in which case the selection method must be stated in the course’s implementation plan.

Criteria for admission to master´s degree studies

The criteria for admission to master´s degree studies differ from those for AMK studies. Read the admission criteria for master´s degree studies below.

When processing enrolments, note that AMK students may not take master´s degree (YAMK) studies.

Admission to YAMK complementary competence studies

Students are admitted to the implementation in order of credits, from largest to smallest. When processing enrolments, note that AMK students may not take master´s degree (YAMK) studies.
