Education
Separate admissions
Separate admissions offer an alternative route to degree-oriented education at Laurea alongside the joint application. Separate admissions are organized throughout the year for various programmes. They are typically arranged for applicants who have already completed studies, for example in the Open UAS, at another university, at certain upper secondary institutions, or who have prior work experience in a specific field.

What are separate admissions?
Laurea’s separate admissions offer an alternative route to degree education alongside the joint application. Separate admissions are organized throughout the year for our various programmes.
Separate admissions are typically arranged for applicants who have previously completed studies, for example in the Open UAS, at another university, at certain upper secondary institutions, or who have prior work experience in a specific field. Application conditions vary between separate admissions. Nothing prevents you from applying through a separate admission even if you also plan to apply through the joint application. This way you can increase your chances of securing a place in a degree programme.
Why choose a separate admission?
Separate admissions available throughout the year
Normally, applications to universities of applied sciences are made in the joint application held three times a year: to Finnish-language programmes in autumn and spring and to English-language programmes in January.
At Laurea, separate admissions are available widely throughout the year.
An alternative route to studies
When applying via the joint application, students are selected for universities of applied sciences in two ways: by certificate selection and based on the national AMK entrance examination. The AMK entrance examination is always held at the same time at all of Finland’s universities of applied sciences in spring and autumn.
Separate admissions, on the other hand, offer alternative ways to gain admission. For example, you can apply to the nursing and bachelor of social services programmes as well as the safety, security and risk management programme through a so-called selection study module. In this process, applicants complete the study module belonging to each programme within a specified period. The selection study module may also include a final exam, a motivation letter and, in the case of the bachelor of social services programme, a group interview.
Applicants who perform best in the selection study module are admitted to the programmes. In other words, you can gain a study place by successfully and purposefully completing a single study module package.
Head start to studies from the selection study module
Selection study modules not only provide an alternative way to apply but also a good way to get to know the field of study.
In addition to familiarizing yourself with the degree programme’s studies, there is also a concrete benefit to completing the selection study module. Those who successfully complete the free selection study module also receive credits from the open university of applied sciences for the module. Thus, when studies begin, the first study module included in the degree may already be completed.
Network with other professionals in your field during your studies
Especially separate admission programmes that require prior work experience offer students a uniquely rich learning environment.
For example, in the Bachelor of Hospitality Management programme aimed at tourism, events and catering professionals, students can deepen their expertise while building networks with other professionals in the field.
