Guided group exercise
On campuses and online, free guided exercise is offered to Laurea students.
Guided exercise sessions are organized in cooperation with LaureaLiike and as separately arranged yoga teacher training sessions. Physiotherapy students lead the classes (all except the yoga sessions).
All guided classes are open and free of charge for Laurea students and staff.
The classes are suitable for everyone, whether you are a beginner or a more experienced exerciser. All exercises are guided and simple and do not require prior experience. The primary language of instruction is Finnish.
There is no pre-registration for the classes. You can simply show up at the start time. Bring your student card. Valid Laurea student status will be checked at the beginning of the class.
Warmly welcome!
Please respect other participants by following these guidelines:
- Arrive to the class on time.
- Give others peace to train: put your phone on silent and send your text messages at other times.
- Please do not record during classes without the instructor’s and participants’ permission.
- Put equipment back after the class.
- Please do not train barefoot in public areas for hygiene reasons. In sports facilities, wear indoor shoes or clean socks. On your own yoga mat you may, of course, practice barefoot.
Below you can find out more about the types of group exercise organised in the spring of 2026. Group exercise classes for autumn 2026 will be published at the beginning of the autumn term.
Brain Break pause sessions
Online on Wednesdays 14:00–14:15 between 21 Jan and 13 May, Teams (a calendar invite will be sent directly to Laurea Outlook calendars)
In Leppävaara and online on Thursdays 14:00–14:15 between 16 Apr and 14 May, Community Corner (room 258) and Teams
Is your thinking getting foggy? Is your neck and shoulders tense? Do you need some loosening and refreshment? Take a movement break! In this easy and relaxed break session the body is moved in a restorative and refreshing way. During the session we do, for example, various stretches, spinal rotations and openings. The session breaks up long periods of sitting and gives your thinking a short pause, which can help calm and refresh a busy body and mind, and promote creativity, learning and recovery.
You do not need special sports equipment for the break session; you can participate in your everyday clothes.
Body care and mobility
In Otaniemi and online on Tuesdays 8:30–8:55 between 17 Mar and 12 May, sports hall (ground floor) and Teams
In the 25-minute body care class you will gently maintain your body with varied movement. The session helps you recover from strain, start the day more alert and flexible, increase mobility and improve body control. The class includes, for example, different mobility exercises such as dynamic and static stretches and activating the body’s support muscles. The class may include a short final relaxation. Wear flexible clothing and bring a water bottle if you wish. You can train in indoor shoes or in socks.
Yoga
Tikkurila 26 Feb, 5 Mar and 26 Mar 15:00–16:00, Multi-purpose room B403
Otaniemi 23 Apr, 7 May, 21 May and 28 May 8:00–9:00, Gymnasium
The Tikkurila and Otaniemi classes are influenced by Iyengar yoga, which emphasizes precise body alignment and systematic, calm practice. The yoga classes are suitable for all ages and fitness levels. You can be a first-timer or a more experienced yogi. Yoga develops body awareness, body control and balance, and it benefits concentration and stress management, among other things. Bring comfortable, flexible clothes and your own yoga mat. Alternatively, mats are available on campuses.
Leppävaara 6 May and 13 May 15:00–16:00 & 20 May 8:00–8:50, room 216
The Leppävaara class begins with a short guided meditation to bring presence, continues with opening and relaxing exercises for body and mind where breath and movement can flow freely. How to pause and be in motion at the same time? The class ends with a final relaxation. No prior yoga experience is required – just come as you are. Wear comfortable, flexible clothes. You may also want something warm to put on and wool socks. After the class you may not necessarily need a shower, so you can easily continue with your day’s tasks directly after the session.
Circuit Training
Tikkurila on Fridays 11:30–12:30 between 23 Jan and 15 May, gym (3rd floor)

If necessary, adaptable options are offered for the exercises. . The exercise uses gym equipment and your own body weight. The class starts with a warm-up and ends with short cool-downs and stretches. Wear flexible sports clothes and bring a water bottle if you wish. You can train in indoor shoes or socks.
