At Laurea, the user must change their password every 12 months. If the password is not changed within the deadline, the account will be locked. A notification about password expiration is sent to the user by email. A password can also be changed before the forced change interval.
Why is password security important?
Your password protects your personal and study-related information, your email and Laurea services. If your password falls into the wrong hands, someone could access your personal information or use your account without authorization.
Keep your username and password confidential at all times. Never disclose them to anyone. Laurea IT support will never ask for your password.
How do I keep my password secure?
Use strong passwords and keep them secret
Phishing attempts aim to obtain users’ passwords, which are then used for financial gain or to cause harm. Malware spread via the web and email attachments can, among other things, steal or destroy files, transmit your username and password information to the malware author, and slow down network operations.
- Laurea systems are accessed with a personal username and password.
- You are personally responsible for the use of your account. Do not disclose your password to anyone. Even system administrators should not know it. If someone asks for your password, they are almost certainly up to no good.
- Change your password often and immediately if you suspect it has fallen into someone else’s hands. If you receive a new password from user support, change it immediately to one that only you know.
- The password can be something you can easily remember yourself, but that outsiders cannot break or associate with you. You can use passphrases, for example.
- Do not write your password down without encryption.
- Do not use the same password for any external service as you use for Laurea services, so that a compromise of an external service does not allow access to Laurea systems.
A good password is
- long, at least 15 characters
- hard to guess
- unique
- easily remembered only by you
Avoid easily guessed passwords:
- 12345678
- November2026
- Your own name or date of birth
