Start of path studies
Once you have accepted the path student place and paid the path study fee, read the instructions below on starting your path studies.
1. Activate your Laurea username
Activate your Laurea username using online banking credentials or a mobile certificate according to the Activate your username instructions.
Note the following when activating your username:
- If you are studying at Laurea for the first time (or after a break of more than 6 months), your username will be a letter-and-number combination based on your name.
- If you have studied at Laurea within the last 6 months, you will continue to use your previous username. Your username may be one of your student numbers or a letter-and-number combination based on your name.
- Although your student number may change during your studies, your username will remain the same.
- If you do not have online banking credentials or a mobile certificate, see the instructions on the Activate your username page.
If needed, you can get technical support from Laurea IT support.
2. Enable multifactor authentication (MFA)
After you have activated your Laurea username, enable MFA to ensure secure login to Laurea cloud services, such as student email and Canvas.

3. Complete the New Student online orientation
After activating your Laurea username, complete the New Student online orientation course on the Canvas learning platform.
- Click the course link to start the course in Canvas:
- Bachelor path student: New student online orientation (link will be added beginning of autumn semester 2026)
- Master’s path student: The online orientation and any possible pre-assignment are included in the course Developing Study Skills and Leadership in Master’s studies. The course workspace opens in the beginning of autumn semester 2026.
- Log in to Canvas with your Laurea username and password.
Complete the New Student online orientation before your studies begin.
4. Check the start date and schedules of the studies
The start date and schedules for the studies can be found in the degree-specific instructions.
The timetable for path students is the same as for degree students selected through the joint application. Your studies and study entitlement begin on the same day according to the degree students’ group’s schedule.
Be prepared to be present from the start of studies so you can get off to a good start. If, for example, you are unable to attend the start of studies due to illness, contact your group’s teacher tutor by email. If needed, you can get help from your campus’s student services.
We recommend checking the degree-specific instructions before studies begin for possible updates.
5. Devices needed for studies
Studying at Laurea requires a computer and an internet connection. As your studies progress, you will also need a webcam and headphones with a microphone.
You will also need a smartphone for multifactor authentication (Microsoft Authenticator app). You can also download the Tuudo app to your phone, which gathers the services most frequently used by Laurea students into one interface.
5. Study certificates
Path students can eat at Laurea campus restaurants at the staff price by showing a study certificate at the restaurant cashier. The study certificate can be requested from student services.
Certificates required by TE services are written only for those admitted to studies once the studies begin. Check your campus’s student services contact information and agree on filling in the form with student services.
After path studies
After path studies you can apply for a degree student place at Laurea in the separate application on the basis of your Open UAS studies and continue to graduation with the same degree group. All path studies you have completed will be recognized in the degree, which speeds up your graduation.
Separate application based on Open UAS studies
You can apply through the separate application to become a degree student when you have completed at least 60 (Bachelor) or 30 (Master’s) credits in the same field in the Open University of Applied Sciences by the end of the application period (spring: 31 July; autumn: 31 December). The separate application is organised twice a year and applications are submitted via the StudyInfo.fi system.

What to do if you do not meet the eligibility requirements or forget to apply?
If you do not collect the credits required for the separate application by the end of the application period (spring: 31 July; autumn: 31 December) or you forgot to apply in the separate application, follow the instructions below.
Bachelor’s path studies, 60 credits
The path study entitlement covers one academic year (two semesters). If you do not complete the 60 credits required for eligibility during the path year or you forget to apply in the separate application, you cannot continue your studies with your path group’s schedule and your enrolments for the next semester will be cancelled. Your teacher tutor from the path period will also no longer act as your tutor.
If you wish, you can continue your studies by enrolling in courses offered in the Open UAS course offering and paying a new Open UAS course fee (per-credit fee or semester fee). When choosing Open UAS courses, pay special attention to the requirements related to suitability presented in the separate application’s selection criteria.
Laurea’s Open UAS course offering is available in the Laurea Smart online store, where you can also enroll for Open UAS studies. You can browse Open UAS courses on the Available studies page and enroll following the Enrollment instructions.
Once you have completed the missing credits, you can apply for a degree student place in the next separate application on the basis of your Open UAS studies. In the separate application, Open UAS studies that meet the selection criteria and are less than three years old will be considered.
Also note that you cannot apply for path studies to the same degree at Laurea if you already have a valid path study entitlement for that program at Laurea.
