Applications for home use

Access key study software on your own device through Laurea — often free with your student status. Licenses are typically based on your student status and include access to software such as Microsoft 365, Windows 11, as well as installation instructions for various specialized applications.

Do you need software for your home computer?

Some of Laurea’s agreements allow applications used at Laurea to be downloaded and used on personal devices. Generally, use is tied to the student relationship and the right of use is verified, for example, by an email address or is confirmed at regular intervals.

You can get free access to, among others, the Microsoft 365 package, Windows 11 and Adobe Digital Editions, as well as instructions for SPSS and SnowFlake installations. Adobe Creative Cloud can be ordered separately at a student price.

Microsoft 365 package

Laurea students can download the M365 package to their own device from the M365 service. Instructions for installing the M365 package can be found here. With your Laurea credentials you can also activate M365 applications on mobile devices.

By installing M365 you accept Microsoft’s terms. If you sign in to the service with your account or Laurea credentials, you also accept Microsoft’s privacy terms. Please note that although the service is provided via Laurea, it is offered from Microsoft’s service.

Microsoft package license expiration and verification

For students, the license is valid as long as you have access to a Laurea user account. In addition, the Microsoft installation checks the existence of the license over the internet every 30 days. When the license ends, Microsoft switches to a restricted mode, where only reading and printing are possible. You can then activate Microsoft with a license you have purchased yourself.

Installing the M365 package (Windows/Mac)

M365 and Chromebook

You cannot install M365 applications on your Chromebook. You can use the M365 programs in a browser, but not all features are available in the browser version.

  8. Then download the software from below by choosing Download
  9. Open the installation package and install the software
  10. Activate the license on Windows’ Activate page

The same instructions with images can be found on the student intranet (requires signing in).

Adobe Digital Editions

Downloadable e-books are copy-protected with Adobe’s Digital Rights Management (DRM) software. For this reason, the user must install a DRM-supporting reading application on their device before reading the books. On PCs and Macs the Adobe Digital Editions application is used. The app available for mobile devices is called Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader.

Downloading the reading app to a mobile device (Android/iPad/iPhone)

  1. Create an Adobe account at http://www.adobe.com/go/digital-editions-createID
  2. Download Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader from your device’s app store. You will need Adobe account credentials to authorize your device.

Downloading the reading app to a PC or Mac

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Create an Adobe account at http://www.adobe.com/go/digital-editions-createID (not necessary if you intend to read the book on only one device).
  3. Authorize your device by signing into the application with your Adobe credentials.
  4. On PC and Mac you can also authorize your device without an Adobe ID by selecting I want to authorize my computer without ID (the books you borrow will then be tied to that device).
