Enrolment in studies

In this page you will learn how to enrol in your studies.

You can enrol in studies via Pakki or the Tuudo mobile app. When the enrolment period begins, you have the entire enrolment period available to enrol in studies. The responsible teacher approves students for course implementations when the enrolment period ends. In Pakki you can see whether you have been accepted.

How to enrol in Pakki

  1. Before enrolling, check that your PSP contains all the studies you want to enrol in.
  2. Add missing studies to the PSP via the study search. You can find instructions for adding studies on the study offerings page.
  3. Go to Pakki and open your PSP.
  4. Select the “Enrolments” tab. You will see a list of course units you can enrol in.
  5. Select the desired implementation, and press “Enrol”.

If the implementation has small groups, choose your preference from the drop-down menu and then enrol.

It is possible to enrol in studies that are not in your PSP, but this is not recommended. In such a case the study will be placed in the so-called studies outside the PSP.

You can cancel an enrolment in Pakki as long as the enrolment is open. If the enrolment period has already ended, cancel the enrolment directly with the teacher.

Note. If your study entitlement is about to end, the enrolment may appear greyed out on the PSP. This can happen, for example, to a pathway student if you have enrolled in next term’s studies or to a degree student if your study entitlement is ending.

In case of problems, contact Student Services.

Students of the Open UAS enrol via the Laurea Smart online store. You can find enrolment instructions on the store, purchasing and cancellation terms page.

Enrolment via Tuudo

You can also enrol in studies using the Tuudo mobile app

  • Search for studies by name, code or using the built-in filters
  • You can also search using your group’s studies – by group code
  • Enrol by pressing the “Enrol” button
  • You can mark studies to follow, so they appear in the timetable even if you have not yet enrolled in the study implementation.

Enrolment in another university’s courses (cross-institutional study) via Pakki

You can enrol in most cross-institutional studies offered by other universities via Pakki. Add the desired study to your PSP and enrol via the PSP’s Enrolments tab. Also check other instructions related to cross-institutional study.

Acceptance to studies

The responsible teacher approves students after the enrolment period has ended. In Pakki you can see whether you have been accepted.

When the teacher has approved your enrolment, the implementation schedules appear in Laurea’s Outlook calendar.

To be accepted to a course, make sure you have completed any prerequisite studies.

Order of acceptance

Students are accepted to studies after the enrolment period ends according to the criteria below, with students selected in order of credits from highest to lowest.

Places can be reserved in both core competence and complementary competence studies for cross-institutional students, Open UAS students and exchange students.

Note. Mandatory core competence studies primarily have places for the students of the group the implementation is designed for. If you enrol in another group’s implementation, we cannot guarantee the compatibility of schedules or a place on the studies. If your enrolment is rejected, you can enrol in studies that become available during the late enrolment period.

Acceptance order for enrolments to core competence studies (summary)

  1. the implementation’s own groups (including pathway students)
  2. students of the same programme at the same campus
  3. students of the same programme at other campuses
  4. students of other programmes

An enrolment may be rejected if the student has enrolled in an implementation of another programme that is not suitable as a substituting study for the student’s degree.

In handling enrolments it is taken into account that a YAMK (master’s) student cannot include AMK (Bachelor’s) studies in their degree.

Acceptance order for enrolments to complementary competence studies

Complementary competence studies are generally open studies regardless of field and to students from different starting groups (subject to prerequisites).

A specific target group, which is expressed in the implementation’s group selections or in the implementation plan under “additional information for the student”, is used in planning the study offering only for a particularly justified reason.

Students are accepted to the study implementation in the following order:

  • Any potential special target group
  • students for whom the study belongs to their own field’s offering
  • other students
Exceptions

According to section 21 of the degree regulations, “the scope of the degree may be exceeded only in exceptional cases on the basis of an approved personal study plan (PSP) and provided that graduation is not delayed. A student’s enrolment in studies may be rejected if all the studies required for the degree have already been completed.”

By case, the order above may be deviated from by decision of the responsible teacher of the study implementation in the following cases, provided that the responsible teacher has been informed of the matter in advance by the student for processing the enrolment:

  • illness or other compelling reason, such as that only the given study stands in the way of graduation and the right to study is ending, or
  • the student’s study plan will remain incomplete (less than 30 credits/term) due to completed recognitions of prior learning and demonstrations of competence (acceleration of studies)

A student can also be placed on an implementation by decision of the head of studies if progression of studies requires it. After the start of the course unit, students can be added only by prior agreement together with the teacher.

A student accepted to the implementation must confirm their participation in the implementation in accordance with section 19 of the degree regulations (see instructions below).

Specific selection criteria for the study implementation can be used in exceptional situations, for example in a study arranged with project funding or in a study that requires commitment to a study trip. The selection criteria are then stated in the implementation plan.

Students from other universities participating in cross-institutional studies are accepted to Laurea’s study implementations by the responsible teacher in enrolment order. In studies arranged in cooperation between universities, other methods of selecting students for the implementation may be agreed upon, in which case the selection method must be stated in the study’s implementation plan.

Cancellation of a study implementation or project

A course unit implementation or project may be cancelled if not enough students register or an insurmountable obstacle arises to its arrangement. The responsible teacher will inform students of the cancellation.

Confirm your participation in a course or project

If you cannot attend the first contact session or follow the teacher’s instructions for a justified reason, contact the responsible teacher and agree on your participation.
