Students must use artificial intelligence responsibly. They are required to disclose whether they have used AI and explain how it has been used. While AI can facilitate the process, students’ critical thinking and independent work remain essential.
Various AI applications can generate text that appears highly professional and expert-like, but such text may still contain factual inaccuracies. AI must never be used to produce the final thesis text, and text or images generated by AI must not be presented as the student’s own work.
Students are always responsible for the content of any text they submit. The thesis must be written entirely by the student. Students must be able to provide their supervisor with a version of the thesis that has not yet been linguistically edited with the help of AI. Cases of academic misconduct will be handled in accordance with Laurea’s Degree Regulations.

During the thesis planning phase, students must discuss the intended use of AI with their supervisor and prepare a plan for its use. The planning form guides students in using AI in accordance with Laurea’s policies. In addition, a statement of AI use must be attached to a published thesis.
The use of AI is prohibited in the maturity test. In bachelor’s degree programmes, the maturity test demonstrates both subject competence and language proficiency. In master’s degree programmes, the maturity test demonstrates subject competence.
