Lucid
Lucid is a whiteboard application that has two sub-applications: LucidChart and LucidSpark.
LucidChart is a program that allows you to easily create diagrams and charts and is similar to the Diagrams.net application (formerly known as Draw.io).
LucidSpark is very similar to the whiteboard application Miro and with LucidSpark you can create similar interactive whiteboards, for example for creating visualizations.
As a Laurea student you are entitled to a Lucid student license, which enables free use of the application.
You can activate Lucid in any Canvas workspace by clicking the “Lucid (Whiteboard)” link in the left hand side menu. More detailed instructions for setting up Lucid can be found in Canvas’ student help bank.
Microsoft Whiteboard
Microsoft Whiteboard is a free-form digital canvas where users can collaboratively develop content and ideas. The tool enables convenient group work even remotely, with everyone using their own devices. Whiteboard is part of the Microsoft 365 services and can be accessed from the application menu in the top left corner of the intranet.
With Whiteboard you can, for example:
- Organizing effective meetings
- Brainstorming
- Team sprint planning
- Project planning
- Problem solving
- Continuous improvement
- Case management
collabRoom
Access rights to use collabRoom must be requested from the Service Desk, which grants them as needed.

The user receives a login link and a password reset link in separate emails.
A room in collabRoom refers to a team/folder within which it is possible to have discussions and share files.
The front page shows the rooms the user has access to.
By clicking “Show subrooms” it is possible to view subrooms related to the room.
Files can be added by dragging them into the box or alternatively by locating them through the directory.
More detailed instructions are available when the user selects the “Info” button in the top right after logging in.
Miro
Miro is an online collaborative tool for group work. In Miro, users can create “boards” where all users can collectively create content simultaneously.
The EDUCATION license is available to Laurea staff or students.
Instructions and application on Miro’s website
Follow these steps:
- Create a free MIRO account on Miro’s website, if you don’t already have one. (Laurea email)
- Request a free upgrade to the EDUCATION plan on Miro’s website.
- Add the following attachments to the application:
- Employment status (e.g. a photo of your staff ID card)
- Accreditation confirmation (e.g. a Word or PDF file that includes our institution’s name and also a link to the English web pages: Laurea University of Applied Sciences, https://www.laurea.fi/en/)
- Add the following attachments to the application:
Students can obtain an English study certificate from PAK, which can be submitted to MIRO as an attachment.
Log in to Miro when you have received the email notification about your account creation: https://miro.com/
- Sign in from the top right of the page using your Laurea email (the one you used to apply for the Education license)
- Create your own password
