Councelling psychologists

The counselling psychologist promotes the wellbeing of Laurea’s students and the smooth progress of their studies, as well as provides support and guidance in problem situations related to studies.

You can get short-term, confidential and free conversational support from Laurea’s counselling psychologists for any concerns weighing on your mind. You can come to talk about anything – whether it’s prevention, a current challenge or a wish to process past experiences. Counselling psychologists support your overall wellbeing and mental health in everyday studies.

Counselling psychologists are close to students’ everyday life, and you will often get an appointment quickly through the electronic booking system. Meetings are usually 3–4 sessions, and they can be held according to your wishes either face-to-face or via Teams.

In addition, counselling psychologists lead wellbeing-supporting courses and produce materials that help you cope with your studies and everyday life. Counselling psychologists also advise and guide you in applying for additional support.

The counselling psychologist’s services are available to Laurea’s degree students:

  • Degree students enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes
  • Pathway students
  • Students admitted through separate selection and students in commissioned education groups

Meetings with counselling psychologists

Book an appointment with the counselling psychologist at your campus. Before booking, check below which counselling psychologist is responsible for your campus.

Change the language to English first. Through the booking system you can book, reschedule or cancel an appointment. If you need to reschedule or cancel your booking, do so as soon as possible so the slot becomes available to another student.

If you have matters for the counselling psychologist other than appointment booking, you can contact them by email or by phone.

If you cannot find a suitable time in the booking system or wish to meet at another campus, contact the counselling psychologist by email or phone.

See the counselling psychologists’ contact details below.

Exceptions to services and mental health support in healthcare

The study psychologist’s duties do not include

Exchange students or open university students are not covered by the counselling psychologist service or by YTHS health services.

These students can seek mental health services from their municipality, their local health centre or other municipal mental health services, or from services provided through their insurance.

All Laurea students also receive initial guidance from Popup Guidance and conversational support from university chaplains.

  • ADHD or other psychological assessments related to learning. Please contact YTHS directly in these matters.
  • Acute crisis work. For crises, the crisis reception services in your municipality or, for example, Mieli ry’s crisis numbers in Finnish, Swedish, English and Arabic can help. Crisis support is also available from university chaplains.
  • Psychological assessments, psychotherapy, therapeutic work, diagnoses, prescriptions for medication or referrals for examinations. Please contact YTHS directly for these matters.
  • Study-related support measures, reading tests or special arrangements can be requested from Laurea’s special needs teachers.
