Physiotherapy students have a total of 28 weeks of compulsory practical training, i.e. 40 credits. In addition, there is an option for an elective 10-credit practical training (7 weeks). The placements take place during the 2nd–4th years of study.

Remember to order an ID card for your practical training if your placement requires one.

The practical trainings are based on work-life oriented themes in the curriculum. The themes are:

  1. Client interaction and guidance 10 credits
  2. Promoting client functioning 10 credits
  3. Application and development of therapeutic methods 10 credits
  4. Rehabilitation networks 10 credits
  5. Elective practical training 10 credits

Practical training takes place in social services and health care or related fields in Finland or abroad. Physiotherapy placements are generally arranged by the students themselves or booked through the Jobiili service. In the case of an international trainee exchange, the booking is handled via the international coordinator. If for some reason a student does not use the placement agreed for them, they must cancel the placement at least three weeks before the start of the placement.

Practical training that enhances professional competence is supervised by teachers together with workplace supervisors.

Students have a training assessment form and a training passport available, which must be completed for each placement.

More detailed instructions for completing paid placements can be found in Canvas in the ‘Fysioterapian työelämäosaaminen’ workspace

Each placement is recorded in the PRM portal. Remember to mark completed placements as finished.
