Information security and data protection

Information security concerns everyone at Laurea. Laurea’s operations and services are increasingly dependent on IT services and their secure and uninterrupted functioning. Legislation also imposes its own requirements for ensuring information security. Laurea’s Information Security Policy and Data Protection Policy define the significance, objectives, organisation, responsibilities, and implementation methods of information security and data protection.

Why is information security important to you?

Daily data processing involves various information security threats. One serious threat is malware spread via networks and e-mail. For example, such malware can steal or destroy your files, transmit your username and password information to the malware author, or slow down the operation of computer networks. Anti-malware software cannot protect against all malware, as new threats continuously appear. Other serious threats include identity theft and the exploitation of users’ information for financial gain.

By using common sense and following instructions you can protect your information, the workstations you use and networks from information security threats. In addition to your own data, protect any personal information of others that you hold. Examples of information that must be protected from outsiders include contact details, bank information, health information and e-mail messages.

Usernames must be treated in accordance with the Rules and regulations of Laurea University of Applied Sciences and, for example, the username-password combination must not be disclosed to anyone, not even to administrators.

Everyone has a duty to ensure information security by complying with legislation and Laurea’s information security rules. Failure to comply may result in consequences.
