A cross-cutting theme in research programmes

Pedagogy and co-creation

Laurea’s pedagogical projects and RDI projects focus particularly on the challenges of developing university education.

Pedagogical development in projects

Pedagogical development is targeted at improving teaching content, learning materials, teaching methods, continuous learning and guidance. Research on learning focuses on open learning environments, online learning and the adoption of new technologies.

The pedagogy and co-development theme has four main focus areas:

  • Development of pedagogy and content of university education
  • Aligning the competence needs of university education and working life
  • Researching and developing learning
  • Co-development with working-life partners

Utilising co-development methods

Societal and working-life competence needs constantly create new competency requirements for education. Education is based on workplace competencies, through which university-educated professionals are trained.

Laurea’s projects and RDI projects make extensive use of co-development approaches and service design methods. Co-development takes place by working together with organisations, municipalities and cities, students and customers, with the aim of creating customer-centred solutions for services. Through various research and development activities we respond to the changing needs of working life and to the renewal of teachers’ competences.

Laurea has many pedagogical development projects. Funders of these projects include, in particular, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the ESF and Erasmus programmes. The competence needs of working life have been studied particularly in the Strategic Research projects associated with the Academy of Finland.
