Bachelor’s Degree Path Studies

Bachelor’s degree path studies are open to everyone regardless of educational background or age — anyone can apply to bachelor’s degree path studies.

Studies completed as a path student give the right to apply in the separate application for a degree student place at Laurea when you have completed at least 60 ECTS credits by the end of the application period (spring by 31.7., autumn by 31.12.). If you are selected as a degree student at the end of your path year, you can continue your studies with the same group.

Because Open UAS studies do not lead directly to a degree, path studies are not eligible for Kela study allowance or other student social benefits such as student housing, Kela meal compensations or travel discounts. Path students are also not entitled to services provided by the Student Health Service (YTHS).

The study fee for path studies is 400 euros and is paid in one instalment when accepting the study place. The stufy fee grants the right to study for one academic year, during which the path studies must be completed.

The tuition fee for path studies is not refunded after the study place has been confirmed.

The tuition fee can only be refunded if the path student receives a degree-leading study place at Laurea for the same semester the path studies begin. Admission to a degree or path place at another UAS is not a reason for a refund, since one can simultaneously be an Open UAS student at Laurea.

Path studies grant the right to study for one academic year, i.e. two semesters, during which the path studies must be completed.

The start of path studies cannot be postponed and no extension can be granted. Path students cannot register as absent.

Bachelor’s degree path studies mainly consist of the first-year studies of the degree, which are 60 ECTS credits in total. Studying primarily takes place in the same group as degree students and according to the group’s timetable.

The studies are full-time, meaning one ECTS credit corresponds to 27 hours of student workload.

In higher education level studies you need self-direction, group and networking skills, sufficient time for studying and the ability to schedule studies to fit your life.

In addition, you should have sufficient English language proficiency (B2/YKI4). You can assess your English language skills with the Kielibuusti test.

The study schedules are the same for a path student and for a degree student selected in the joint application. In path studies you must follow the group’s timetable and attend the scheduled contact sessions shown on the timetable either on campus or online.

Schedules for Autumn 2026 studies will be published on 4.5.2026, after which they can be viewed through the Timetable Engine.

2. Select English in the top right corner
3. Choose “Group search” for search criteria and write your study group code in to the search field
   • Find the group code from the path study places list below for the respective group, e.g. HBA226SN
4. Click the “Add” button for the search result and go to the calendar view in August. You can browse schedules month, week or day at a time.
5. By clicking reservations in the calendar you will get more information about the implementation of that study.

NOTE! The group’s calendar may show complementary studies such as preparatory English, which apply to students who have chosen that particular course.

Path students are assigned a personal teacher tutor and receive the same guidance and support as degree students during their studies.

Path students are subject to the same rules as degree students and generally have the same rights and obligations as degree students. Path students have access to almost all the same services as degree students.

Path students may eat at Laurea campus restaurants at the staff price by showing a student certificate at the restaurant checkout. The student certificate can be requested from student services.
