Studying at Laurea
Modes of study
Laurea’s programmes are implemented as day, blended or online studies. Familiarize yourself with the different modes of study so that you know how the programmes are carried out in practice and can choose the mode of study that best suits you during the application stage.

What does studying require?
All modes of study require commitment from you. In university studies you need
- self-direction,
- group and networking skills,
- sufficient time for studying, and
- the ability to schedule your studies to fit your life.
All modes of study have the same workload and the degree studies last 3.5 years, 4 years for public health nurses. All programmes include competence-enhancing practical training regardless of the mode of study.
Daytime studies
Day studies include contact teaching on campus, typically 2–5 days a week between 8 am and 5 pm. In addition to contact teaching, studies include independent online study and group work. As studies progress, the amount of contact teaching decreases and the amount of online studies increases.
Studies also include competence-enhancing practical training, where possible in the student’s home municipality or nearby areas. Internships are full-time studies and require presence.
Blended studies
In Laurea’s blended studies, campus and online study are flexibly combined, but studying requires self-direction, group and networking skills, and the ability to schedule your studies to fit your life.
Online studies
In online studies, the studies are completed entirely online. Online studying requires self-direction, group and networking skills, and the ability to schedule your studies to fit your life.
Some teaching consists of time-bound lectures and participatory teaching online. You can complete part of the studies independently according to your own schedule during the implementation period of the studies.
Studies also include competence-enhancing practical training, where possible in the student’s home municipality or nearby areas. Internships are full-time studies and require presence.
