Studies are carried out as daytime studies at Laurea's Lohja campus. As a daytime student, you must be able to attend contact learning at the Lohja campus during daytime. There are 14 study places open for path students.

Path studies give you the possibility to complete UAS studies before applying to become a degree student. After you have completed at least 60 ECTS of studies through the open UAS, you can apply to become a degree student through a separate application. Basically path studies consist of first-year studies of a degree programme. Path studies cost 400€, which is the yearly tuition for Open UAS studies. Please note that path studies are Open UAS studies that don't give you an eligibility to apply for a residence permit in Finland

Studying in the programme

The Social Services programme taught in English at Lohja, studies are organised as daytime studies, which means that as a student you must be prepared to attend contact learning at Laurea Lohja campus during weekdays. As a path student, you will study together with a group of English-speaking group arriving from abroad. You will study according to the Degree Programme in Social Services curriculum.

You are assigned a personal teacher tutor and you will receive the same guidance and counselling as degree students. Students studying at an open university of applied sciences are treated equally to degree students.

As a path student, you are not eligible for Kelas financial aid for students (study grant). For other forms of financial aid, please contact your local TE services.

Recognition of prior learning

Prior higher education studies can be included in the degree after you have become a degree student.

Existing competence that corresponds to your degree’s learning outcomes can be included in the degree through recognition and accreditation of your prior learning. After completing your path studies and becoming a degree student, you can discuss recognition and accreditation with your tutor teacher.

You can apply as a path student through the form below during the application period May 3rd to May 9th 2021. There are 14 study places open for applying.

After the application period has ended, an interview will be organised for applicants.

We will invite approximately 21 applicants for video interviews. We will send a link to all the invited applicants, which will contain all the necessary instructions and the link for the interview. The video interview answers must be sent by May 16th 11:59PM.

The interview questions are designed to measure your motivation and commitment to the studies, study preparedness and suitability for the field of Social Services. Interview questions are in Finnish and in English. You have to answer with same language as the interview question is presented. The maximum amount of points you can get from the interview is 20, and you have to get at least 10 points to pass the interview. The final admissions are made based on the interview. In circumstances when applicants have a tie in admission points, the student selection will be drawn by a computer system.

You will be notified of your study place by May 24th. Please be ready to accept the study place and pay the tuition fee of 400€ by May 27th.

Study skills

Make sure that you have required study skills (e.g. language skills, academic writing skills, teamwork skills) for managing the studies in university of applies sciences and proceeding in studies together with the student group.  

The required language skills in degree programme in Social Services are basic Finnish skills in level B1(Threshold or intermediate) and English skills in level B2 (Vantage or upper intermediate ). You can evaluate your language skills with Dialang language test.

Separate ap­pli­ca­tion process based on Open UAS studies

After you have completed at least 60 credits as a path student, you can apply to become a degree student through a separate application process.

Bachelor's Degree programme in Social Services

The scope of Bachelor's degree programme in Social Services is 210 ECTS. The studies consist of core competence studies, complementary competence studies and other complementary studies.

The Bachelor of Social Services degree provides you with the skills required for helping and guiding clients in different life situations. During your social services studies, you learn various methods of working with clients and means for providing concrete help and support. You will also learn the skills required to start a business of your own and produce well-being services.

​​​​​​​​​Tuition fees and grants for non-EU/​EEA area degree students

Non-EU/EEA area students who have been selected for admission to degree programmes taught in English will be charged tuition fees. The tuition fee is EUR 8000 for Laurea's Bachelor's degree programmes. The tuition fees apply to students who are non-EU/EEA citizens and have received admission to the degree programmes taught in English.
