Monitored online exam
The exam is taken on your own computer on the Canvas learning platform and, if necessary, is supervised via a Zoom/Teams video call. During the exam the teacher monitors all students participating in the exam by video. Participants may also be divided into breakout rooms during the exam (for example, group exams). As a result, you will see other students’ video and they will see your video. Please ensure that you are in a quiet place without interruptions and that nothing appears in your video that you do not want the teacher or other students to see. Please note that you may take the exam at a location of your choice and you can also, if necessary, reserve a room at Laurea’s campuses to take the exam.
You will receive detailed exam instructions in the course’s Canvas workspace.
Automated exam proctoring
Laurea uses the Proctorio proctoring software in connection with Canvas to a limited extent. Proctorio is used in situations where the grounds for supervision are particularly strong, such as medication calculation exams and written Swedish language exams.
Proctorio is a browser extension that enables the automation of proctoring for exams taken in Canvas. The aim is to enable taking exams flexibly without being tied to a specific time or place.
When Proctorio is enabled for a Canvas exam, it records the aspects of a student’s exam session selected by the teacher, for example the webcam video and audio as well as the student’s desktop view. The teacher can also restrict students’ activity during the exam, for example by blocking visits to other websites, disabling clipboard use, or preventing printing. After the exam Proctorio compiles a report for the teacher of any detected irregularities. Any decisions about potential cheating or ambiguities are, however, always made by the teacher, not by the proctoring software. The teacher has the possibility to review recordings for the entire exam session as part of the exam proctoring.
