Varasto – Sustainability Data and Digital Supply Chains in Construction
This partly EU funded project supports construction industry companies in utilizing digitalization, data economy, and integrating sustainability data into their business operations. Specifically, the project focuses on the use of electronic procurement messages and sustainability data in the construction sector, enabling more efficient information management and greater transparency in supply chains. The project develops business-driven operating models and pilots digital solutions that support standardization, procurement process optimization, and sustainability reporting in the construction industry.
The total funding of the project is €501,126, of which the European Union’s share is €350,788.

Background
The Varasto – Sustainability Data and Digital Supply Chains in Construction project partners are Laurea, KIRAHub & TIEKE.
The project is expected to improve the digital capabilities of construction companies, support them in adapting to regulatory and sustainability requirements, and create a foundation for new digital business models and network collaboration.
In particular, the project focuses on leveraging electronic business documents (Peppol) and sustainability data in the construction sector, enabling more efficient information management and more transparent supply chains.
The project develops operating models based on the needs of companies and pilots digital solutions that support standardization in the construction industry, the streamlining of procurement processes, and sustainability reporting.
The primary target groups of the project are:
SMEs in the construction sector, material suppliers, as well as designers and experts, including developers and main contractors, whose operations involve digital supply chains, sustainability reporting, and the development of delivery processes.
Software companies and financial management operators
SMEs in the Uusimaa region that are interested in the data economy
Identified need:
To obtain efficient digital solutions for managing supply chains and sustainability data, as well as expert support for the adoption of new standards and technologies.

Objectives
The project is expected to enhance the capabilities of construction companies to leverage digitalization, support businesses in adapting to regulatory and sustainability requirements, and create conditions for new digital business models and networked collaboration. The key objectives are:
• To improve the digital readiness of SMEs in the construction sector by supporting their transition to the use of electronic business documents (Peppol) and digital procurement processes.
• To promote the utilization of sustainability data so that companies can meet the requirements of sustainable development and reporting obligations.
• To develop interoperable and standardized solutions that facilitate business operations in a changing regulatory and market environment.
• To strengthen collaboration between companies and the broader ecosystem, enabling construction firms to jointly develop and adopt new innovative solutions.
Actions
- Background studies and the development of reporting models will be carried out to support companies in managing regulations and standards.
- Training sessions and workshops will be organized, where companies will learn to utilize digital procurement solutions and sustainability data in their business operations.
- Pilots will be implemented, allowing companies to test and apply the developed solutions in practice.
- The digital ecosystem of the construction sector will be strengthened to ensure that companies can continue development work even after the project has ended.
