Project background

Climate change increases heatwaves, diseases, and other health risks, but these impacts are often detected too late. AURORA exists to provide timely, reliable information so health risks can be anticipated and addressed in advance.

Project objectives

  • For cities and authorities: provide forecasts and early warnings on climate-related health risks
  • For policymakers: deliver evidence to support preventive actions and informed decisions
  • For citizens: improve health and safety under changing climate conditions

Project activities

  • map links between climate and health in the Boreal region
  • develop an integrated climate and health monitoring system
  • build forecasting and early-warning tools
  • pilot solutions in eight cities
  • train users to apply the tools in everyday decision-making

Results and outputs

  • operational early-warning and forecasting tools
  • a decision-support system for cities
  • validated solutions for anticipating health risks
  • guidelines and models that other cities can replicate
