Grow and specialize as an expert
As working life evolves, the need for stronger competence, specialized skills, and up-to-date expertise continues to grow. Changes in responsibilities or roles may highlight the need to develop and update your competence.

What, for whom, and why?
Laurea’s fee-based programmes focusing on specialisation and advanced skills are designed for professionals already in working life. Our programmes provide opportunities to develop competence related to a specific operational environment or area of expertise. Laurea’s educational pathways offer a goal-oriented and working life–driven route for competence development. They support professional growth, career advancement, and the long-term development of expertise.

Deepen your competence
Working Life Oriented Competence Modules respond to the competence needs of rapidly developing fields and changing job roles. They are designed for situations where you want to strengthen a specific area of competence, update your expertise, or take on new responsibilities in your current or a new role.
Did you know that the content of Working Life Oriented Competence Modules is based on components of a university of applied sciences degree? Completed studies can later be credited towards applicable degree programmes at Laurea, supporting the long-term development of your competence.

Specialize in your profession
Specialization trainings (30 ECTS) offer the opportunity to develop in-depth and advanced expertise and to strengthen your professional profile. They are intended for experienced professionals who wish to progress to more demanding roles.
Specialization trainings are approved by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, and they are implemented according to a national curriculum designed in cooperation between universities of applied sciences.
Laurea’s specialization trainings are offered only in Finnish.

Gain specialized expertise for your work
When your work requires in-depth, clearly defined, or highly responsible expertise, Laurea’s targeted professional training offers focused solutions to support your role. These trainings include, for example, MAPA® safe operating models, safety manager trainings and other study modules designed for demanding operational environments.
The programmes are working life–oriented, based on current professional requirements, and often supported by employers. They help you strengthen your professional competence and perform effectively in roles where expertise plays a critical role for both individuals and organisations.
