Circular Economy AMK- project aimed to increasing quality and openness of multi-disciplinary UAS education through promotion of circular economy competences and collaboration in the UASs highlighting internationality. Industry 4.0 –thinking and action models were utilised both in planning and in implementation phases. Learning environments and methods were developed, utilising the strengths of all 19 UASs involved. The functionalities of learning environments were tested with the circular economy studies developed in the UASs. The experiences and best practices learned from the new collaboration were implemented as a permanent part of the UAS-sector, while circular economy viewpoints will be implemented in the study plans.

Project description

Circular economy UAS -project was an educational development project by 19 Universities of Applied Sciences and funded by the Ministry of Culture and Education with two main objectives. Our general objective was to increase the role of circular economy in education and in RDI-work. The objective for educational edevelopment was to plan and implement open, high quality and internationally oriented education within different study fields and contents that promotes transformation to circular economy.

Piloting and implementing new collaborative models in the UASs and in different fields of study is in the core of educational development. The aim for the practical education- and RDI-activities was to create both new collaborative methods and working practices and to improve the existing ones. The synergies within the current projects were mapped.

The renewal of education was based on the Industry 4.0 mental- and acting models that take the focus areas of the circular economy map of Finland. One of the concrete aims of Industry 4.0 - models is to promote the industrial symbioses between different actors.

While developing the education, also new business potential will be more easily identified and turned into commercial activities earlier. The educational culture will become more open and cross-studying will become easier for students.

The project strengthened the integration of RDI-activities, education and regional development. The education fits better into international operating environment and partnerships and to harness digitalisation as an efficient tool for learning.
