Background

Digital transformation poses significant challenges for professionals working with vulnerable groups that are at risk of exclusion from an increasingly digitalised society. In the field of corrections, existing educational resources are often fragmented, outdated and insufficiently tailored to strengthen practitioners’ digital competences. Across the EU, there is an urgent need to equip professionals in correctional and social services with the skills required to effectively support people subject to criminal sanctions in their digital inclusion, rehabilitation and reintegration into a digitalised society. 

Objectives

DigiCorre will identify and map best practices in the digitalisation of correctional services through collaboration with project partners, target groups and experts by experience with lived experience of offending, using co-creation methods throughout the process. Drawing on these best practices, the project will develop a Joint European Digital Education Model for Correctional Services (the DigiCorre Model). The model will be delivered through an open-access extended online course (xMOOC) incorporating interactive learning elements and consisting of modular micro-content and micro-courses. 

Expected outcomes

The expected project outcomes are: 

• Increased sustainable open-access learning opportunities on digitalisation in correctional services for current and future practitioners. 

• More effective rehabilitation, social inclusion and active citizenship among people subject to criminal sanctions following their release. 

• Expanded international and multidisciplinary professional networks within the correctional services sector. 

• More effective and digitally competent correctional services. 

• Safer societies across Europe.
