Project background

Nursing practice and education are changing rapidly, and professional skills need to be continuously updated. Onboarding and clinical skills training require time, guidance, and facilities that are not always sufficiently available. The project was launched to make better use of digital solutions in both working life and nursing education.

Project objectives

  • For nursing professionals: to make onboarding and competence development easier through digital tools.
  • For students: to support learning and independent practice of clinical skills regardless of time and place.
  • For teachers and education providers: to introduce new digital teaching methods and learning materials.
  • For working life: to improve the quality of nursing care, work ability, and well‑being at work.

Project activities

  • Filmed nursing procedures from the practitioner’s point of view, including real patient situations.
  • Produced onboarding and educational videos for nursing professionals and students.
  • Developed six MOOC online courses to support the learning of clinical skills.
  • Created virtual instructions for smart glasses (Microsoft HoloLens2).
  • Trained nursing staff, teachers, and students in the use of digital methods.
  • Organised demonstration and showroom events where participants could try out the digital solutions.

Project results and outputs

  • Published 23 nursing education videos on YouTube and in the Nursing Database (Hoitotyön tietokanta).
  • Created an onboarding package for nursing professionals.
  • Implemented six open MOOC courses for practising clinical skills.
  • Produced seven virtual instructions for smart glasses and integrated them into teaching.
