Students organized celebration for World Mental Health week
World Mental Health week was held in October.
Laurea was celebrating World Mental Health week (8.10.-12.10.2018) by organizing an event for immigrant students at Tikkurila campus on 9.10.2018. This event was attended by 180 immigrant students from Varia, Edupoli and Vantaan aikuisopisto, and the program was planned and designed by Social Services Degree students together with exchange students from all over the world, for example from Korea, Germany, Austria, Spain and Belgium.
The event was part of a new degree course called Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion with Multicultural Clients.
During this empowering event, immigrant students participated in games for Finnish language learning and relaxed in Multisensory Space, and they also had a chance to try out different art-based methods, share stories and get information about different mental health promoting services available in Finland.
For Laurea students, this event made possible to meet clients from a variety of backgrounds, share experiences, learn more about immigrant life in Finland and share their knowledge about social services and study chances in Laurea’s English Degree programmes. Both immigrant and Laurea students found the event empowering and interesting and such co-operation was hoped to soon continue.
