Career monitoring survey for UAS graduates to be launched
This year the career monitoring survey was sent on 15 October by email and SMS to all those who completed a UAS Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in 2015.
Data on the employment, working career and satisfaction with the working career and degree is collected with the nation-wide career monitoring survey. All those who have completed their university of applies sciences studies five years ago, i.e. the graduates of 2015, will receive the survey.
Laurea graduates are satisfied with their careers
Based on the career monitoring survey carried out last year, it is known that 82% of UAS graduates were at least somewhat satisfied with the degree they had completed. Satisfaction with the degree is connected with how well the respondent can utilize the competence acquired at the UAS in their current job, and how the difficulty level of the job corresponds the UAS education.
The previous survey shows that 86% of Laurea's respondents are satisfied with their career so far and 84% of the respondents felt that employers valued their degree. Qualitative feedback from Laurea's partners also supports this result.
The Career monitoring survey is valuable
— The career monitoring survey collects data on graduates’ employment, career paths and competence needed at work. The data is important for those applying for education and students, who are contemplating on their own study and career opportunities. The results provide information on the change of working life for the development of teaching and continuous learning services. In addition, the Ministry of Education and Culture utilizes the data in allocating funds to universities of applied sciences, says Project Manager Satu Helmi from Turku University of Applied Sciences.
As the survey’s recognition increases, the nation-wide response rate is expected to reach almost 40 percent. In the previous survey, the response rate was 34. Some of the universities of applied sciences reached this goal already in the previous survey round. Previously 38.2% of Laurea's alumni responded to the survey. The career monitoring survey of universities of applied sciences is carried out simultaneously with universities’ career monitoring survey.
The project From UAS to career – Career Data for All, which is funded by the North Ostrobothnia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment’s European Social Fund, strengthens and develops the collection of universities of applied sciences’ career monitoring data and dissemination of information to staff, students and external stakeholders. The project is implemented by Turku UAS, Opiskelun ja koulutuksen tutkimussäätiö Otus (the Research Foundation for Education and Research), Häme University of Applied Sciences, Laurea University of Applied Sciences, Oulu University of Applied Sciences and Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
