Laurea the strongest in competitive RDI funding

Continued increase in the RDI activities of universities of applied sciences.

The Rectors' Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (Arene) reported on an increase in the research, development and innovation carried out by universities of applied sciences. Universities of applied sciences received EUR 107 million of external funding for their RDI activities last year, which was over EUR 10 million more than the previous year.

The research, development and innovation activities of universities of applied sciences focus on the development of products, services and workplace practices. In addition to companies, cooperation involves the public sector and the third sector.

Last year, the research, development and innovation projects of universities of applied sciences involved a total of 2,681 external partners, up 19% from the previous year. The collaboration between Laurea University of Applied Sciences and its partners boosts workplace competence and dynamism especially in the Uusimaa region.

-    Laurea has been particularly successful in securing the most competitive funding, says a pleased Mari Vuolteenaho, Vice-President, RDI, of Laurea University of Applied Sciences.

- The amounts that Laurea has received in EU framework programme funding and other competitive EU funding granted on the grounds of quality as well as in funding granted by the Academy of Finland are the largest among Finnish universities of applied sciences
