Support for international emplyees

Laurea supports international staff by providing guidance during relocation and onboarding, advising on practical matters (registration, services, etc.), and supporting integration into the academic community. A personal orientation session is provided by Laurea’s HR, where key practices, ways of working, and other important aspects related to employment and daily work are introduced.

Laurea’s HR and your supervisor provide practical support throughout the early stages of employment, including assistance with administrative processes and timely provision of necessary documents and information. International employees are also supported in becoming part of the working community through collaboration, communication, and everyday guidance, helping ensure a smooth transition to both the workplace and life in Finland.

Right to work in Finland

For employment in Finland, it is important to ensure the legal right to work and reside in the country.

• EU/EEA citizens can work in Finland without a permit but must register their right of residence if staying for more than three months
• Non-EU citizens generally need a residence permit based on employment for long-term work
• In most cases, a signed employment contract is required before applying for a residence permit
