Audio Production – Podcasts
Plan
- Overarching theme / throughline
- Target audience: who are you making the podcast for? Who do you want to reach?
- Find inspiration and examples by listening to other podcasts, for example on YLE Areena or Spotify.
- You can listen to Laurea’s already published podcasts here and explore the themes.
- Episode topics and scripts. Download the script template here.
- If you are staff, familiarise yourself with the the publication point criteria and send the podcast script in advance to Publication Services (julkaisut@laurea.fi). Once you receive approval, you can proceed.
- Choosing the podcast host
- Arranging experts on the podcast topics as guests
- Brief/coaching for the host and guests
- Reserve the recording space
- Student bookings: you can ask your teacher to reserve the Tikkurila campus podcast studio A403 for you.
- Students can ask the Tikkurila lobby coordinator to open the studio door at the reserved time.
- If you want to familiarise yourself with the podcast studio, book the space for yourself and calmly review the instructions in the studio or on the intranet.
Record
- Check the recording equipment (microphones, audio interface, sound levels)
- Keep the script with you while recording
- Stay on topic
- It’s better to record more than less
- When recording remotely (Zoom/Teams recording) – use external microphones for everyone!!!
- At the Tikkurila campus, recording in podcast room A403 is conveniently done with the RODEcaster Pro II podcast studio system.
- Make a performance/media agreement with podcast guests.
Edit
- You can edit audio files with Audacity. Instructions.
- Remove unnecessary parts and silent sections
- If desired, add sound effects and music, for example as a short jingle.
