Orientation day for the new exchange students was held on Wednesday 24th of August at Leppävaara.
On Wednesday the 24th of August 2016 over 170 exchange students from 21 countries arrived at Laurea for their exchange semester during the fall 2016 or academic year 2016/2017. The students are representing 61 Laurea's partner universities in Europe and 12 Laurea's non-European partners. Exchange students are enrolled in various programmes from Business Management, Business Information Technology, Security Management, Hospitality Management, Nursing, Social Services and Physiotherapy. Thanks to Laurea campuses Hyvinkää, Lohja, Leppävaara, Otaniemi and Tikkurila for organising study possibilities for the incoming exchange students.
Organized by Laurea's international education team, the kick off orientation gathered all incoming students to get first introduction of Laurea and its education and support systems. In addition, sessions regarding intercultural communication and finnish language and culture were among the highlights of the day. Our active student union Laureamko introduced the students to the social possibility and support system for throughout their studies. In the course of the week, students will have orientations in their nominated campuses, get enrolments, clarify their study modules and familiarize themselves with their campuses rules and structures.
Cooperation with partner universities has a great impact in Laurea internationalization not only in exchange, but also internationalization at home, teaching or project cooperation. The presence of the incoming students is a great opportunity for Laurea students and staff to network, get to know other universities and their possibilities, and potentially visit for study, internships, teaching or form project ties.
