Nearly 8,000 applied to Laurea in the autumn joint national application process

The university admissions period for degree programmes beginning in spring 2016 has closed. The number of applicants totalled 28,400. Altogether 6,000 starting places are available in the degree programmes beginning in spring 2016.

A total of 7,834 people applied for a study place at Laurea University of Applied Sciences in the autumn joint application process. The figure is the second largest of all higher education institutions in Finland, straight after Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Over 3,800 applicants named Laurea as their first choice in the autumn joint application process. Altogether around 13,000 applications were submitted to Laurea. In the autumn joint application process Laurea offered a total of 840 starting places in 11 different degree programmes.

In terms of the number of primary applicants, the most popular degree programmes were the degree programmes in Social Services and the Degree Programme in Security Management, to which nine applications per starting place were submitted. The most popular Master's programme was Business Management in the Future and Customer-oriented Service Business.

"We are extremely delighted to see the increase in the appreciation of universities of applied sciences, which is reflected in the rising popularity of the education in recent years. The popularity can probably be explained by the good employment prospects provided by the education and the collaboration with working life as well as the region," states President and CEO of Laurea University of Applied Sciences Jouni Koski.

The results of student selections in this autumn's joint application to higher education will be published by 26 November, and the students who have been selected to a degree programme must accept their study place by 15.00 on 9 December 2015.
