The Criminal Sanctions Agency (Rise) is the authority under the Ministry of Justice responsible for executing prison sentences and community sanctions.

Collaboration with Laurea
Laurea and the Criminal Sanctions Agency engage in diverse cooperation. Experts from the Criminal Sanctions Agency have, for example, given lectures at Laurea, and the Criminal Sanctions Agency offers internship placements to Laurea students.

The Criminal Sanctions Agency as an organization
The Criminal Sanctions Agency conducts impactful work to prevent recidivism. Its core task is to ensure that the punishments imposed by the courts are carried out in prisons and as community sanctions in accordance with the law and safely. The aim of its operations is to reduce reoffending and thereby increase public safety.
Approximately 2,700 professionals work at the Criminal Sanctions Agency in a variety of roles across Finland. Most employees work as guards and in rehabilitation and social work roles. In addition, Rise employs psychologists, social workers, teachers and chaplains, as well as experts in administrative and development tasks.
