Congratulations on receiving a study place at Laurea UAS in the Service Innovation and Design degree programme!
Before reading more about your degree programme make sure you have confirmed your study place and enrolled as present or absent for the academic year. If you have not completed these steps, you can find the instructions for doing so here.
You have been granted admission to the Master's Degree Programme in Service Innovation and Design at Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Leppävaara. According to the decree given by the Ministry of Education, the name of the qualification and title conferred for the degree programme in Service Innovation and Design is Master of Business Administration. The degree falls under Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications.

The scope of the programme is 90 ECTS credits and is 1,5–2,5 years in duration. The formal timeframe of the programme is from the fall of 2019 to 31st December 2020.
Send photocopies of your required work certificates (proving at least 36 months of work experience after your higher education degree) by 8th July 2019 15.00. Kindly note that employment contracts alone are not considered as work certificates. All work experience must be proven with valid work experience statements issued by the employer. The statement must clearly show the duration of your employment and work tasks and must be duly signed and stamped by the employer. If you are currently employed, please provide a temporary statement from your employer of the ongoing employment. Work experience which cannot be proven with the employer's statements will not be considered.
Please bring with you your Identification card/passport, original higher education degree certificates (necessary only if degree has been completed outside Finland) and work certificates with you on the first day of studies. Admission will be withdrawn if you fail to submit your original certificates within 10 days of commencement of your studies or it is discovered that you gave false information when applying.
Your studies will begin with an orientation day, during which you will get to know each other and meet your personal tutor teacher, who is there to help you during your Laurea studies. At this point, the important things to understand are the overall structure of your studies, how to plan your own study path, what your rights and responsibilities are, and how the studies are implemented in practice. In addition, you will get an overview of the Laurea IT infrastructure and e-learning environment. Laureamko, the student union, will introduce the services offered for new students. After the orientation day your studies at Laurea will follow the normal study schedule. It is very important that you participate in every contact session. During the sessions, this multidisciplinary group of students will be creating unique new knowledge and competences together and all the ideas and viewpoints are needed in this shared learning process.
Activate User Account
Remember to activate your user account before your studies begin. You can activate it five days before your studies begin. Kindly note that you will need a personal Finnish Bank user ID. If you do not have a Finnish Bank user ID you need to pick up your user information from the student office. You can find the link to activate your user account here.
Recognition of prior learning in Master's degree programmes
Recognition of prior learning as part of the studies in Master's degree programmes in Laurea means that the student may
a) Include higher education studies that he/she has completed previously or in another higher education institution as part of his/her complementary studies,
b) Substitute a Master's degree study unit with studies completed elsewhere,
c) Ask for his/her previously obtained competence to be identified and recognized as a part of a study unit.
It is possible to include up to 15 credits of previous higher education studies in the complementary (elective) studies in the Master’s degree programmes in Laurea if:
The previous studies are graduate level studies
- The studies have been completed after the degree with which the student has
applied for Master’s degree studies in Laurea
- The previous studies date back to less than ten years
You will receive more information about the recognition of previous studies when you have the discussion concerning your personal study plan in the beginning of your studies.
This segment is meant for those non EU/EEA students who are liable to pay the tuition fee. The yearly tuition fee for this programme is EUR 10 000. If you are liable to pay the tuition fee, you will have received a conditional offer of study place as well as an e-mail containing the instructions on how to pay the tuition fee, the tuition fee invoice and the Laurea student agreement. Your Student Union: Laureamko
Each University of Applied Sciences has a Student Union. The Student Union works to increase the quality of the education and Student wellbeing. The student Union of Laurea University of Applied Sciences is called Laureamko.
Laureamko brings the student's point of view to Laurea's decision making. Laureamko has plenty of actors at every campus who work for you, in particular. Furthermore, Laureamko also offers web services, the Laureamko Shop is an online shop for the Students and Laureamko chat supports you in any matters related to studies.
Laureamko arranges many different events, such as visits (for example to Fazer), parties, bowling and board game nights and many other things that supports solidarity. You will find more information on the Laureamko pages, from Facebook and Instagram.
Arriving to Leppävaara
Laurea Leppävaara campus is located at an easily accessible place in Espoo. The address is Vanha maantie 9, 02650 Espoo.
The campus is located near the junction of Kehä I ring road and the Turku motorway. The easiest way to get to the Leppävaara campus is by local train or bus.
When arriving from the airport it is easiest to get to Leppävaara by taking trains via Helsinki. The I and P trains leave straight from the airport and you can switch trains at Pasila station, Huopalahti station or at Helsinki where you can hop on to one of the following trains, which will take you to Leppävaara: A, U, E, Y and X. The trains leave often, approximately every 10 minutes.
You must buy your ticket (regional ticket) for the transportation before boarding the train. The regional ticket can be purchased from a ticket machine at the airport or via the mobile app. The price of a regional ticket from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Leppävaara is approximately 5,50€.
The trip from the airport to Leppävaara will last about an hour in total. Once at Leppävaara, you will have a 10 minute walk from the railway station to the campus.
