Shaping the Future of Challenge-based Learning
European higher education institutions are strengthening collaboration to develop joint degree programmes and innovative learning models linked to real-world challenges.

On June 16–18, representatives of PIONEER Alliance (WP4) gathered in Zlín for a seminar that marked an important step in shaping the strategic direction of challenge-based education across the Alliance.
This second official meeting of Work Package 4 delegates was jointly organized by Avans and BFH, with UTB hosting the event. Laurea played a central role in preparing the meeting and facilitating strategic discussions during the seminar as well as starting the implementation phase of challenge-based educational activities.
Advancing Joint and Double Degrees Across Europe
A major focus of the meeting was the Vice-Rectors for Education discussion on joint and double degrees. The dialogue is expected to support the development of flagship PIONEER joint degree programmes aligned with the European Degree Label requirements.
WP4 has made solid progress, producing a portfolio of joint and double degree proposals that will serve as important inputs to the emerging PIONEER course catalogue. In parallel, the CBE toolbox, enhanced by an AI-based tutor, together with the train-the-trainer concept, is steadily advancing toward implementation.
The event was hosted by Tomas Bata University in Zlín, whose welcoming environment provided an excellent setting for productive discussions and strengthened collaboration among the participating institutions.
