Laurea hosts the CRITIS2023 Conference on Critical Information Infrastructures Security - registration open until 1 September 2023

The 18th international CRITIS2023 Conference on Critical Information Infrastructures Security will be held on 13th - 15th of September 2023.

CRITIS2023 is the 18th International Conference on Critical Information Infrastructures Security and will be held on 13th – 15th of September 2023 at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Last year the conference was held in Munich at the Universität der Bundeswehr.

This year the CRITIS 2023 takes place in Finland which has plenty in common when it comes to security and safety approaches and concerns. First, in networked society, security preparedness requires extensive collaboration among authorities, businesses, industry organizations, cities, regions, and academia. 

The goal is to conduct cooperation between these actors to find the latest research results and solutions for noticed needs and challenges. This all is to enhance preparedness plans, to guarantee the continuity of critical operations and information sharing amid disruptions and emergencies, and hence to ensure coherent safety and security for society. 

Globalization and global security concerns are part of today’s challenges and hence CRITIS 2023 as an international Critical Information Infrastructures Security conference has an important role to promote and bring into discussion novel academic discoveries and findings for future security solutions and measures. 

The conference brings together researchers, critical infrastructure operators and other organizations

The CRITIS 2023 Conference continues the tradition of bringing forth innovative research in the field of critical information infrastructures protection C(I)IP, exploring ideas that address challenges to resilience and societal safety & security, and fostering dialogue with stakeholders.

CRITIS 2023 aims to bring together researchers, academic professionals, critical (information) infrastructure operators, industry, defence and governmental organizations working in the field of complex infrastructure system security. 

CRITIS2023 welcomes especially but not limited to research topics focusing on information exchange security and securing information infrastructures in various ways, also topics related to hybrid threats and critical information infrastructure security are encouraged. In addition, CRITIS 2023 aims to nurture and inspire young and open-minded researchers in this challenging multidisciplinary research field of safety & security.

Laurea takes a multidisciplinary approach to security challenges

Laurea University of Applied Sciences has a security research program which delivers high-level research for future needs in the context of internal and external security nexus. Laurea has a strong track record in EU funded security projects, and Laurea’s research interests and expertise cover various fields, such as critical infrastructure protection, hybrid threats, maritime and border security, crises management, emergency first response and civil protection, cyber security, crime prevention, as well as in arctic security. 

One of the latest projects related to critical infrastructure is the EU-CIP project (European knowledge hub and Policy Testbed for Critical Infrastructure Protection). The main goal of EU-CIP is to establish a novel pan European knowledge network for Resilient Infrastructures. Laurea is one of the project partners in this project funded via Horizon Europe.

Another EU funded project aiming to strengthen the European cooperation network is the EU-HYBNET project (Empowering a Pan-European Network to Counter Hybrid Threats). This Laurea-coordinated project  focuses specifically on the preparation for and defending against hybrid threats, as well as on the development and building of an European network for the sector.

Laurea is actively involved in several international and national networks operating in the field of safety and security, such as FISC, EOS, ECSO, ESDC, PSCEurope and UArctic.
