CEGO-project seeks to strengthen SME Circular Economy Business in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded project is coordinated by the Laurea University of Applied Science.

The transition towards circular economy is ongoing in the Finnish Helsinki-Uusimaa region in many areas. The CEGO – Circular Economy Goes East and West -project focuses on SMEs and seeks to strengthen their capacity in participating in circular economy in East, West and Middle-Uusimaa. The project promotes circularity in ground materials, renovation and plastics.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded project is coordinated by the Laurea University of Applied Science. The other project partners include the development companies Keski-Uudenmaan Kehittämiskeskus Oy Keuke, Posintra (Eastern Oy Uusimaa), and Novago Yrityskehitys Oy (Western Uusimaa) that have an extensive reach to local SMEs. The CEGO project began in June 2021 and will continue until August 2023.

The goal of the project is to support the transition of local SMEs towards circular economy by promoting knowledge exchange and the birth of an ecosystem that can support their collaboration and co-creation. In addition to this the project offers regional training and coaching related to the development of business models that incorporate the circular economy. The project seeks to integrate the practices as a permanent fixture of the partnering organisations.

The CEGO-project does pilots on circular solutions in ground materials, renovation and plastics. It also builds the foundations for networked collaboration and shared learning all through the Helsinki-Uusimaa region. As an ecosystem project CEGO seeks to collaborate closely with other ongoing circular economy projects in the area. It especially tries to build synergies with the Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Valley planning project that seeks to coordinate efforts in circularity in the area.

The CEGO-project employs and further develops Laurea’s strong capacities in circular economy, service business, co-creation, collaboration platforms and ecosystems.
