Transfer application to Laurea
A student studying at another Finnish higher education institution can apply to transfer their right to study to Laurea University of Applied Sciences. You can apply as a transfer student after your first study semester.

Transfer of study right from another University of Applied Sciences or university
If you are a degree student at another Finnish higher education institution, you can apply to transfer your right to study to Laurea UAS. You can apply to transfer to another programme at the same level either so that the degree title remains the same or so that the degree title changes.
The next application period for transfer students to Laurea is 4.5.2026 at 08:00 – 18.5.2026 at 15:00.
The application options for the transfer application are published and applications are submitted during the application period at www.opintopolku.fi. The application form is available behind the Opintopolku link. In Laurea’s transfer application you may apply to only one of the programmes listed in the application.
Studies selected in the transfer application at Laurea begin at the start of the autumn semester following the application.
Laurea’s own degree students cannot apply in this open transfer application; they apply via Laurea’s internal transfer process. More detailed application instructions can be found on the Student Intranet.

Eligibility for application and required documents
You are eligible to apply if:
- You have been registered as present at a Finnish higher education institution for at least one semester during the application period. This means you are studying at least your second semester.
- You may be registered as absent during the application period, but you must have been registered as present for at least one semester.
- You have completed studies according to the following credit accumulation per semester:
– In a Bachelor’s degree programme at least 27 ECTS per semester
– In a Master’s degree programme at least 15 ECTS per semester
The average credit accumulation per semester is calculated by dividing the total number of credits by the number of semesters of attendance used. For selection, study achievements verified on the official transcript of records by the end of the current academic year (31.7.) are taken into account (including partial completions). Credits granted as recognition of prior learning from your previous studies or degrees are not counted as study achievements.

You may also send attachments by email to hakijapalvelut@laurea.fi.
Selection procedure
There are no pre-defined numbers of starting places in the transfer application. Admission decisions are always made on a case-by-case basis. Not all applicants seeking transfer can be granted a study place.
Selection is influenced by the following factors:
- You have progressed in your studies purposefully and with good academic performance
- You have sufficient remaining right to study time to complete the degree within the target duration
- The target duration of the degree is reduced by the time you have already used to pursue your started degree. Your recorded periods of attendance and absence also transfer with the study right.
- For a Bachelor’s degree programme the target duration is 3.5 years for 210 ECTS and 4 years for 240 ECTS
- For a Master’s degree programme the target duration for 90 ECTS is 1.5 years
- If you apply to transfer to another degree, the right-to-study period is always determined according to the new degree, but the time you have already studied is included
- The studies you have completed are applicable to the degree you are applying to transfer to such that completion of the degree within the target time is possible according to Laurea’s curriculum and course offering
- There is room for new students in a group suitable for the stage of your studies.
- The grounds you present in the application
- Sufficient language skills for higher education studies
- Transfer from a Finnish-language programme to an English-language programme is generally not possible due to the degree’s language requirements. In exceptional cases for very weighty reasons, the person responsible for the programme may consider a transfer. Transfer from an English-language programme to a Finnish-language programme is possible. Studying in a Finnish-language programme requires at least B2-level Finnish language proficiency
Based on the selection criteria above, some applicants will be invited to a selection interview. Interview invitations are sent by email and interviews are organized via Teams video connection.
Student selection
The Head of Studies makes the decisions on student admissions. Decisions will be published no later than 2.7.2026 in the Opintopolku.fi service. Laurea Admission Services will inform all applicants of the decision by email. The study place must be accepted by 31.7.2026 at 15:00 via the Opintopolku.fi service. A student who has accepted the study place must enrol as present for the next academic year.
The admission decision can be made conditionally if you do not yet have the required credit accumulation at the time of application. The final official transcript of records must be submitted to Laurea University of Applied Sciences Admission Services at hakijapalvelut@laurea.fi by 31.7.2026 at the latest. If the registration of study achievements on the transcript of records has been delayed for reasons beyond your control, you must also provide an informal certificate from your university by 31.7.2026 of the completed studies that will be recorded on the transcript afterwards (the official completion date of the study and the number of credits completed).
The University of Applied Sciences may cancel the admission if you have not submitted the required transcript by the deadline, if the credits required for admission are not met, or if you have provided incorrect information in your application.
In social and health care fields the student’s health and functional capacity must be such that they can carry out practical tasks and placements related to the studies. Applicants to University of Applied Sciences degrees in social and health care are asked on the application form about health factors that may be an obstacle to studies or a previous cancellation of study right due to endangering the applicant’s health or the safety of other people. (Act L932/2014.)
When a student selected in the transfer application accepts the study place, the previous right to study ends on 31.7.
