Project background

Solutions that support well-being and mobility in urban environments are often developed in a fragmented way by different actors. Cities lacked a shared model where companies, RDI actors, and residents could test new solutions in real-life settings. The project was launched to respond to this need and to build effective testing platforms in urban areas.

Project objectives

  • Build permanent testing platforms for solutions that promote well-being and mobility.
  • Increase knowledge of new, effective solutions to support urban development.
  • Provide opportunities to test and develop products and services in real urban environments.
  • Support the creation of new business and strengthen competitiveness.
  • Improve everyday mobility, comfort, and well-being in residential areas.
  • Involve residents in the development and evaluation of solutions.
  • Build a shared well-being and mobility ecosystem for the metropolitan area.

Project activities

  • Established testing platforms in urban regeneration areas in Helsinki and Espoo.
  • Piloted solutions that support well-being and mobility in urban spaces.
  • Tested solutions such as mobility-supporting urban structures, safe routes, and mobile measurement points.
  • Utilised technologies such as IoT, AR/VR/XR solutions, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
  • Brought together cities, companies, RDI actors, and residents for joint development work.
  • Built operating models to support cooperation and knowledge exchange.

Project results and outputs

  • Functional platforms for testing new solutions were created in urban areas.
  • Companies gained hands-on experience in developing their products and services in real-life use.
  • Mobility and comfort in residential areas were improved through concrete pilots.
  • Cooperation between cities and different actors was strengthened.
  • A foundation for a permanent well-being and mobility ecosystem in the metropolitan area was created.
