Internships

The purpose of the internship is to acquaint the student with the practices of their field in a real work environment. The student can participate in various development tasks during the internship in the employer’s organization. The student gets valuable work experience and practical skills from the internship, which the employer also benefits from. In addition, through internships, the employer gets potential employees for the future as well.

The internship is 2.5-5 months long for full-time work or 400-800 working hours for part-time work. The student can complete the internship flexibly at a different stage of their studies, so the timing of the internship can easily be adjusted to the needs of the internship provider.

Internships can be paid or unpaid. The general recommendation is that the employer pays the salary for the internship according to the collective agreement of their field, 70-90% of the corresponding salary or according to the lowest table salary.

JobTeaser

Companies can advertise their available jobs, internships and thesis topics to Laurea students free of charge in the portal. Companies have two choices for doing so:

  1. A company can create its own company profile and leave an announcement about an open position or announce events. The company profile functions as a student-oriented version of the company’s website.
  2. The company can create a recruiter’s account and leave an announcement only for an open position.

Why should company create a company profile?

  • Establishing a company profile gives your company a chance to present your company in more detail and you can easily edit company information.
  • Your company profile will be visible to the students at all times even if you do not have any available job postings.
  • Once you have set up a profile, you can let the students know about any work-related events, such as webinars or your own recruitment events, in an easy manner.
  • Once you have registered and set up a company profile, you can update the vacancies you have posted. If the open position is filled up before the application period ends, you can remove the ad yourself. (The ad will automatically be removed once the application period is over.)
  • Any vacancies you announce will be registered in your company profile, so that you can use the information later on when creating a new ad.
  • Both students and alumni use JobTeaser when searching for open jobs or information about events that interest them.
  • Key partners can also browse our students’ CVs and directly recruit suitable factors.

Please note that in case you decide to create a company profile, extra care should be taken to fill in all the required sections. A well-made company profile will attract students to get to know your company and apply for your open positions. The company profile functions as a student-oriented version of your website.

Once your company has made a job or internship available, it will be approved by Laurea. We will take the time to review the information in the ad before it is published in the JobTeaser recruitment portal.

NOTE Unpaid internships in the social and health sector are provided through the joint Jobiili service. Read more here.

6 steps to create a good vacancy
  1. Clear heading
    • When the job title is presented clearly, applicants interested in the job can find it more reliably. If the company wants to implement creative titling, however, it is worth including the job title clearly in the title.
    • If it is an internship or a thesis topic, this should already be stated in the title.
  2. A clear mention of the duration of the task, the desired starting time and the location of the workplace
  3. A short summary of the company and its operations
    • This creates interest and a clearer overall picture of the workplace and work environment
  4. Most important tasks
    • Job titles may have different job duties in different companies, so describe what the job description actually includes. Tell about the job tasks comprehensively, but clearly. You can also mention what kind of goals the position has, as this can help the applicant to understand his job duties and his own role more clearly. Especially in the internship announcement, it would be good to highlight what kind of professional knowledge and understanding the student will get from the internship in question.
    • What skills, educational background or other requirements are you looking for in the applicant? It is important to tell what kind of expectations and requirements there are towards the applicant. You should include the most important expectations in the announcement. When you express your expectations well in the job advertisement, you get targeted jobs for the right applicants. In this way, applicants also know how to tell you better in their CV and application exactly the things you want to hear about.
    • Separate the requirements and the “good to know” sections clearly
      • Most of the applicants, especially students, read the requirements literally and often do not apply for the position, because they feel that they do not meet all the expectations.
  5. Benefits and the potential added value of the job in question for the applicant
    • The benefits brought by the job make the job seeker’s interest in the job stronger. You should highlight why the applicant should apply for this position and your company.
  6. Application instructions and contact persons

If it’s an unpaid internship, it’s a good idea to state it clearly in the announcement.

The length of the internship varies from 2.5 to 5 months. The internship can also be completed part-time, in which case the length of one internship period is 400 hours. The student has the opportunity to complete an internship also during the summer, when the internship period can be formed into a fixed-term employment relationship similar to a summer job.

The student can complete the internship flexibly at a different stage of their studies, so the timing of the internship can easily be adjusted to the needs of the internship provider.

What kind of internship agreement is made with the student?

In a paid internship, the student has an employment relationship with the internship provider, and in this case the student and the employer enter into a separate employment contract in accordance with the Employment Contracts Act.
