Laurea raises the flag for sustainable development 25.9.2023
Laurea University of Applied Sciences raises today the flag of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to demonstrate its commitment to promoting sustainable development and to push for change in different areas of society.
Today marks eight years since the 193 member states of the United Nations agreed on the Sustainable Development Goals. By raising the SDG flag on our campuses, we are showing our support and commitment to the SDGs, along with thousands of other institutions and companies.
At the heart of the programme are the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will guide the world's sustainable development efforts until 2030. The goal of sustainable development is to ensure a good quality of life for present and future generations.
Sustainable development is part of Laurea's strategy
Laurea's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is part of our current strategy. We consider ecological, social and economic impacts in our activities. We look at our values of impact, responsibility and transparency through the UN goals. Our core activities of education, research, development and innovation (RDI) and regional development are the best way to contribute to achieving the goals.
A good example of the development of the SDG Assessment is our project work, which involves close cooperation with different actors not only at the national level but also internationally. This year, we have started to assess the impact of all projects that have been granted a preparatory permit on the SDGs.
- As a university, we have an important role to play in promoting sustainable development, both as a provider of knowledge, as a influencer of attitudes and as a regional partner. To achieve our goals and be part of social change, we need ambitious and repetitive everyday actions from all of us. I invite every laureate to join in these efforts," says Jouni Koski, President, CEO.
