Students are offered support for the thesis process in the form of information search workshops and guidance as well as peer groups. In addition, each student is supported in their thesis work by an assigned thesis supervisor.
Thesis information search workshops
- Having trouble starting your thesis? How do you find research articles in your field? Join a workshop on searching and finding information online.
- Please note that these workshops are suitable for both bachelor’s and master’s students.
- The thesis information searching workshops for autumn 2026 will be published later.
- Information Search Canvas workspace and workshop schedules:
https://canvas.laurea.fi/enroll/RKB8AL - These are mainly for students studying in English degree programs. If you are studying in a Finnish degree program, please join in a Finnish workshop.
Personal guidance on information search
- Can’t find what you’re looking for? How to locate the main sources for the thesis? How to use Google Scholar effectively and get articles for free?
- You can book a personal information search guidance online session offered by Laurea Library information specialists below
Peer groups for thesis writers
If you feel you need a group around you while doing your thesis, sign up for a peer group for thesis writers. Registered students will be grouped separately from bachelor’s and master’s students, taking into account the preferred working language and the times they will use to work on the thesis. A Teams space will be created for the group and, in addition, those registered for the activity will be invited to virtual coffee sessions by the organisers.
Creating peer groups
- Groups are created for registrants according to their working times, language preference and whether they are doing a Bachelor’s-level or Master’s-level thesis.
- Peer groups usually have 3-8 students.
- Students’ campus and field of study do not affect group allocation; students are mixed in groups.
- Groups are first created at the beginning of the term, when the first group of registrants has been collected. After that, groups are created as registrations come in. Later in the semester the start of a group’s activities may have to wait if suitable group members are not available.
Peer group activities
- Contact details of fellow participants are sent to members of created groups and after that the group’s activities are the responsibility of its members.
- A Teams space is created for the groups where they can discuss and arrange meetings in person or remotely.
- Peer group members get to know each other, discuss concerns and thesis challenges. They can chat in Teams or meet.
Virtual coffee sessions
Those registered in peer groups are also invited by the facilitators to monthly virtual coffee breaks! The times of the coffee breaks vary because we cannot know participants’ work and other schedules. At the coffee breaks we can talk about the common challenges of doing a thesis and about the activities of the peer groups.
Those registered for the activity are invited to the coffees with a calendar invitation. Virtual coffee breaks will be held at the following times:
- September Thu 17.9. 15:15-16
- October Tue 20.10. 15:15-16
- November Fri 20.11. 13:15-14
- December Wed 15:15-16
- Join via Zoom
