Student union Laureamko

Student Unions protect students’ interests and promote their well-being. There is a Student Union in every University of Applied Sciences in Finland.

Every university of applied sciences has a student union that oversees the interests of students in terms of the quality of education and student well-being. Laureamko is Laurea University of Applied Sciences’ own student union, a community of students that supports, represents and influences students’ everyday lives and rights. Whether you have just started your studies or are an experienced student, LAUREAMKO will be by your side throughout your studies.

We represent students both within Laurea and at a national level. We are involved in decision-making that affects your study experience. We work closely with the university and other partners to ensure that the student voice is heard.

As a Laureamko member, you will have access to a digital student card, Slice, which allows you to enjoy student benefits.

The most important thing for us is that every student feels like they belong. That's why we organize events, train tutors, build networks and are there when you need support. By becoming a member, you also get access to hundreds of student benefits, services and the opportunity to directly influence the study environment at Laurea.

Laureamko organizes many different events, such as Appro, parties, company visits, group and board game evenings and many other activities that support community spirit. You can find more information on Laureamko's website, Facebook and Instagram.

It is also worth following your campus team, which you can find on Instagram by searching for “Laureamko campus”.

Degree Camp

Laureamko is having a camp together with two other Student Unions (Helga and METKA) for new degree students. Whether you are just moving to Finland or have been living here for a while, we invite you with open arms to participate.

During the camp you will get to meet other degree students around the capital region, make connections and share your initial thoughts on studying in Finland while experiencing traditional Finnish culture. Previous years we have roasted sausages and corn at a special grill house called “Kota”, gone rowing and afterwards enjoyed the heat of sauna as well as shared our thoughts on living and studying in Finland.

Camp’s purpose is to help you integrate to Finnish culture by getting to know the basics of life in Finland, as well as to build a network of like-minded students from your peers and older students and staff. For instance, we will practise together how to reach out to Finns and set up routines. Don’t worry though, this is not an intensive study weekend about studying in Finland.
Fun fact: Finland has low power distance and flat hierarchy, which means your teachers are like your mentors; they will happily help you find your place when you arrive.
