Ambiguities in the payments of the Kenya's commissioned education program are being resolved in favour of students
Significant part of the missing second semester fees has now been paid. Laurea restarts suspended program.
Kenya´s Uasin Gishu County has started paying the late fees for nursing and physiotherapy students studying at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Payments were expected by the end of March; a significant part of the missing second semester fees has now been paid. The Uasin Gishu County, the students and their parents are currently in the process of signing agreements on participation in the program and the fees to be paid by the students. Laurea representatives have seen the contract and confirm that it contains sufficient information on the rights and obligations of the students and the County. This is to avoid similar ambiguities in the future.
Due to the changed situation, Laurea will continue the commissioned education program with the Uasin Gishu County and allows the remaining fees to be paid by the end of April. All groups studying in Finland will start as soon as possible and continue until the end of April.
The students waiting arrival in the country, Laurea has instructed to pay any of the remaining fees to the County and to make their own accommodation arrangements in Finland. The aim is to start teaching the groups as soon as possible, but considering the time needed to process the residence permits.
Jouni Koski, Managing Director of the Laurea University of Applied Sciences, is pleased the situation has turned in favour of the students.
- We are pleased and relieved to be able to continue teaching the commissioned program. We have worked relentlessly to resolve the situation.
- The uncertainty surrounding the situation has been unacceptable to the students and has caused them frustration and concern. I regret it on behalf of our entire community, Koski says.
