Open University of Applied Sciences
At Laurea Open University of Applied Sciences you can study while you work, improve and update your professional skills and aim your studies at achieving specific qualifications.
The studies are rooted in working life, and the knowledge acquired through them is easy to transfer into working and everyday life. If students are working at the same time as studying, the studies have to be flexible. This is why some of the study units are taught online. Open study is done in groups that are integrated into the Laurea's degree student groups.
Studying here is open to all. Anyone interested in open studies is welcome to ask about all study units that are part of Laurea's curriculum. Some study units (especially in specialist studies) may have requirements for previous knowledge, knowledge of languages etc. Students her/himself is responsible for having the required knowledge and also good ICT skills. The language level required is at least C1 in the language of instruction. Students in the fields of Beauty Care and Health Care are required to possess B1 level skills in Finnish even if the main language of instruction of the degree programme is English. Where necessary, this can be tested when participating in courses provided in Finnish. More about the European language levels can be read at Europass pages (EuropassEuropeanLanguageLevel_EN.pdf).
Notice however that foreign students attending Open University of Applied Sciences studies may need a visa or a residence permit depending on their citizenship. Studies must be of the type that lead to a degree and in practice it is difficult to get a visa or a residence permit only for open UAS studies.
