Information for new Service Innovation and Design students​


Congratulations on receiving a study place at Laurea UAS in the Service Innovation and Design degree programme!

Before reading more about your degree programme make sure you have confirmed your study place and enrolled as present or absent for the academic year. If you have not completed these steps, you can find the instructions for doing so here.

You have been granted admission to the Master's Degree Programme in Service Innovation and Design at Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Leppävaara. According to the decree given by the Ministry of Education, the name of the qualification and title conferred for the degree programme in Service Innovation and Design is Master of Business Administration. The degree falls under Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications.

The scope of the programme is 90 ECTS credits and is 1.5–2.5 years in duration. The formal timeframe of the programme is from 7.9.2017 to 31.12.2018.

Send photocopies of your higher education degree certificates, academic transcripts and work certificates (proving at least 36 months of work experience after your higher education degree) by 14th July 15:00.  Kindly note that employment contracts alone are not considered as work certificates. All work experience must be proven with valid work experience statements issued by the employer. The statement must clearly show the duration of your employment and work tasks and must be duly signed and stamped by the employer. If you are currently employed, please provide a temporary statement from your employer of the ongoing employment.  Work experience which cannot be proven with the employer's statements will not be considered.

Please bring your Identification card/passport, original higher education degree certificates, academic transcripts and work certificates with you on the first day of studies. Admission will be withdrawn if you fail to submit your original certificates within 14 days of commencement of your studies or it is discovered that you gave false information when applying.


Orientation days

Your studies will begin with an orientation day 7.9.2017 during which you will get an overview of the Laurea IT infrastructure and you will meet your personal tutor teacher who is there to help you during your Laurea studies. In addition, Laureamko, the student union, will introduce the services offered for new students. After the orientation day your studies at Laurea will follow the normal study schedule. Read more about you studies curriculum here and find your compulsory study schedule here.


Activate User Account

Remember to activate your User Account before your studies begin. You can activate it five days before your studies begin. Kindly note that you will need a personal Finnish Bank user ID. If you do not have a Finnish Bank user ID you need to pick up your user information from the student office. You can find the link to activate your User Account here.   


Tuition fee

This segment is meant for those non EU/EEA students who are liable to pay the tuition fee. The yearly tuition fee for this programme is EUR 10 000. If you are liable to pay the tuition fee, you will have received a conditional offer of study place as well as an e-mail containing the instructions on how to pay the tuition fee, the tuition fee invoice and the Laurea student agreement. Your Student Union: Laureamko

Each University of Applied Sciences has a Student Union. The Student Union works to increase the quality of the education and Student wellbeing. The student Union of Laurea University of Applied Sciences is called Laureamko.

Laureamko brings the student's point of view to Laurea's decision making. Laureamko has plenty of actors at every campus who work for you, in particular. Furthermore, Laureamko also offers web services, the Laureamko Shop is an online shop for the Students and Laureamko chat supports you in any matters related to studies.

Laureamko arranges many different events, such as visits (for example to Fazer), parties, bowling and board game nights and many other things that supports solidarity. You will find more information on the Laureamko pages, from Facebook and Instagram.

Arriving to Leppävaara

Laurea Leppävaara campus is located at an easily accessible place in Espoo. The campus is located near the junction of Kehä I ring road and the Turku motorway. The easiest way to get to the Leppävaara campus is by local train or bus.

When arriving from the airport it is easiest to get to Leppävaara by taking trains via Helsinki. The I and P trains leave straight from the airport and you can get off at Pasila or the ending station Helsinki. From Pasila or Helsinki you can hop on to one of the following trains, which will take you to Leppävaara: A, U, E, Y and X. The trains leave often, approximately every 10 minutes.

You can buy tickets for the transportation before boarding the train from a ticket machine at the airport. The ticket from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Leppävaara will cost you approximately 5,50€.

The trip from the airport to Leppävaara will last about an hour in total. Once at Leppävaara, you will have a 10 minute walk from the railway station to the campus.

Study schedules

You can view your student group's study schedule in the Asio-system without Laurea login (user account). 
Follow these steps to view study schedules for autumn 2017:

- Open your study schedule here (link)

- A calendar view opens up. You can browse the calendar using the top left hand corner calendar and clicking on the “Next week” and “Prev. week” or clicking on an exact date.

- Your studies begin at earliest from week 36 (Thursday 7.9.2017).

In some studies your student group may be divided into smaller groups, e.g. A and B groups. The student group's calendar you are now viewing shows all of these, so some overlapping events may also appear. These are planned and nothing to worry about.   

Please do note that changes to the study schedules are possible.

Once you activate your Laurea-login (user account), you will be able to make your own personal study schedule. It will include only studies relevant to you and thus will be clear and easy to understand. You may activate your Laurea-login approximately a week before studies begin if you have a personal Finnish bank user ID. (Instructions: ) If you do not have a personal Finnish bank user ID you need to pick up your user account information from the student office when your studies begin.
