Information for new Global Development and Management in Health Care students
Congratulations on receiving a study place at Laurea UAS in the Global Development and Management in Health Care degree programme!
Before reading more about your degree programme make sure you have confirmed your study place and enrolled as present or absent for the academic year. If you have not completed these steps, you can find the instructions for doing so here.
You have been granted admission to the Master's Degree Programme in Global Development and Management in Health Care at Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Tikkurila. According to the decree given by the Ministry of Education, the name of the qualification and title conferred for the Degree Programme in Global Development and Management in Health Care is Master of Health Care. The degree falls under Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications.

The scope of the programme is 90 ECTS credits and is 1.5–2.5 years in duration. The formal timeframe of the programme is from 14.9.2017 to 31.12.2018. You can find the curriculum and schedule of studies under the Curriculum and schedule topic.
Send photocopies of your higher education degree certificates, academic transcripts and work certificates (proving at least 36 months of work experience after your higher education degree) by 14th July 15:00. Kindly note that employment contracts alone are not considered as work certificates. All work experience must be proven with valid work experience statements issued by the employer. The statement must clearly show the duration of your employment and work tasks and must be duly signed and stamped by the employer. If you are currently employed, please provide a temporary statement from your employer of the ongoing employment. Work experience which cannot be proven with the employer's statements will not be considered.
Please bring your Identification card/passport, original higher education degree certificates, academic transcripts and work certificates with you on the first day of studies. Admission will be withdrawn if you fail to submit your original certificates within 14 days of commencement of your studies or it is discovered that you gave false information when applying.

We warmly welcome you to start your inspiring global health studies at Laurea University of Applied Sciences Tikkurila Campus, Ratatie 22, Vantaa on 14th September 2017 8.45 am. We will start with inspecting your curriculum, familiarizing the practical issues and Laurea's digital learning tools and environments, so your participation is crucial for the progress of your studies. Please, remember to bring your original study and work certificates with you.
Please N.B. that we will have an Ethical Leadership and Management Symposium together with international visiting lecturers, Federation of Universities of Applied Sciences (FUAS) students from Lahti UAS and HAMK UAS and students and professionals from Metropolia UAS' on 5th and 6th October 2017 at Laurea Tikkurila Campus. The symposium is part of your compulsory studies.
You may progress your autumn studies during the summer by reading the following text book: Peter M. Ginter, (2013, 7th edition) The Strategic Management of Health Care Organizations. Jossey-Bass. The book is available on Metropolia's, and Laurea's libraries (ebrary). You may also seek for it from Terkko library of University of Helsinki.

Your studies will begin with an orientation day 14.9.2017 during which you will get an overview of the Laurea IT infrastructure and you will meet your personal tutor teacher who is there to help you during your Laurea studies. In addition, Laureamko, the student union, will introduce the services offered for new students. After the orientation day your studies at Laurea will follow the normal study schedule. Remember to activate your User Account before your studies begin. You can activate it five days before your studies begin. Kindly note that you will need a personal Finnish Bank user ID. If you do not have a Finnish Bank user ID you need to pick up your user information from the student office. You can find the link to activate your User Account here.

This segment is meant for those non EU/EEA students who are liable to pay the tuition fee. The yearly tuition fee for this programme is EUR 10 000. If you are liable to pay the tuition fee, you will have received a conditional offer of study place as well as an e-mail containing the instructions on how to pay the tuition fee, the tuition fee invoice and the Laurea student agreement. Arriving to Laurea Tikkurila campus
Laurea Tikkurila is easily reached by public transport. The campus is situated next to the Tikkurila railway station.
When arriving from the airport the fastest and easiest way to access the campus is by hopping on to either the I or P train leaving straight from the airport. The train ride will last about 25 minutes.
The tickets cost approximately 4€ and you can buy them before boarding the train from a ticket machine at the airport.

You can view your student group's study schedule in the Asio-system without Laurea login (user account).
Follow these steps to view study schedules for autumn 2017:
- Open your study schedule here (link)
- A calendar view opens up. You can browse the calendar using the top left hand corner calendar and clicking on the “Next week” and “Prev. week” or clicking on an exact date.
- Your studies begin at earliest from week 37 (Thursday 14.9.2017).
In some studies your student group may be divided into smaller groups, e.g. A and B groups. The student group's calendar you are now viewing shows all of these, so some overlapping events may also appear. These are planned and nothing to worry about.
Please do note that changes to the study schedules are possible.
Once you activate your Laurea-login (user account), you will be able to make your own personal study schedule. It will include only studies relevant to you and thus will be clear and easy to understand. You may activate your Laurea-login approximately a week before studies begin if you have a personal Finnish bank user ID. (Instructions: https://www.laurea.fi/en/services/helpdesk/user-account-and-passwords ) If you do not have a personal Finnish bank user ID you need to pick up your user account information from the student office when your studies begin.
