Exchange Students and Trainees
Laurea’s six Bachelor programmes and two Master programmes in English and active student mobility cooperation attract international students from around the world to come study at Laurea. International students enjoy the friendly atmosphere and community feeling, as well as the working life orientated, competence building studies.
Laurea University of Applied Sciences has seven units in the Greater Helsinki Region and provides educational services on four fields of study. Studies in English are offered in the Bachelor and Master Degree Programmes in English, and as part of the Bachelor and Master programmes in Finnish.
Exchange students and trainees can study/train at Laurea during autumn semester, spring semester or for the whole academic year. Orientation is organised in the beginning of autumn and spring semesters, and is open for all international students to participate.
Before filling in Laurea's application form all incoming exchange students need to be nominated to student exchange by their home institution. A person responsible for international activities at the home institution needs to contact the international planning officer of the student's field of study at Laurea in order to receive access to an electronic nomination system.
The deadline for nominations in autumn term and academic year is May 1st and for the spring term October 15th.
Deadline for studies/traineeships in autumn term and academic year is May 15th. Except for traineeships in nursing and social services the deadline is already April 15th.
Deadline for studies/traineeships in the spring term is October 30th.

A good command of English is needed to study/train at Laurea.
Laurea's recommendation for English language skills is level B2 in The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Orientation to Finnish language is organized as part of the orientation session for incoming exchange students. All incoming students at Laurea can complete at least Basic Finnish 1 (5 ects). Incoming students are also welcome to participate on other Finnish language courses organized for international degree-seeking students (altogether 15 ects credits).
Tutoring and assistance
International students are asked to notify their Student Tutor at Student Union Laureamko about their arrival and travel arrangements, so that they can be met upon their arrival to Finland. The information will be gathered from the arriving students after they have been accepted to Laurea. It is highly recommen ded for exchange students to arrive during the Arrival Days, as the days have been selected to ensure that taking care of necessary practical issues is as smooth as possible before actual studies start.
International planning officers, together with student affairs offices and faculty, assist exchange students in academic questions, i.e. studies and studying, and provide information especially related to exchange. Support is provided in face-to-face meetings and by e-mail and telephone.
Student union Laureamko and its International Student Tutors also provide exchange students orientation and assistance. This includes help from International Student Tutors with practical arrangements and studies, student card, social activities, trips and introduction to Finnish language and culture. Laureamko will contact all exchange students prior to their arrival.
